Toyota reminding of 2015 Takata airbag recall

I just looked into this, and Holy $#!& why wasnt this more widespread news? It seems most of revelation happened just before Covid?

I owned a car with these airbags and had no idea (its sold now).

People, PLEASE look into the full Takata airbag story and see if you own any vehicles that may have them - 34 brands, for many years from the middle 2000s to mid 2010s.

They can possibly go off Without having a crash, and become unstable with moisture and temperature changes.

Hopefully I'm the only one here that didnt know, but I know people that are far more into vehicle maintenance and repair, and they didnt know either.

It was widespread news like 8+ years ago when those things were killing people. A family member's leased BMW X1 was recall after the lease was up way back in 2012.

"Widespread news"? Doesn't seem like it, I missed it, as did several of my car buddies ive spoken to now. Gotta remember, if youre doing your own car maintenance, and dont watch reg news channels (or dont have a TV subscription at all, as I do) then there's many ways for this have been missed.

Just hope everyone has checked their cars out for these airbags. Some of us also cant afford a 202x vehicle every two years, and are still driving cars that are 10+ years old. My current is a 2010, but thankfully doesnt have these airbags.

A reminder of the possible dangers and to be vigilant isnt a bad thing.

I guess it's because I read a lot of car base websites so that info was everywhere. Most of the deaths happened in the US so I guess it wasn't as well covered in Canada back then?

You should have received letter mail notices for the recall. Honda sent multiple letter mail to my brother. When we registered his old car to my name he told me to service it asap. I started receiving notices, and at least one even after having it serviced soon after (reporting lag time).

Toyota sent me multiple letters about a battery holder recall in my latest car, and the dealer used to call weekly (always sent them to voice mail) until we found time to bring it in for service.
