US Murder stats why are they so high?

But there are blue prints. The problem is you are talking about a custom one of air gun which would actually a lot more complicated than the typical (for example) delayed blow back open bolt full auto carbine (auto shotgun would be easier still). There are TONS of books detailing the desing - with detailed blueprints - on various firearms. They are used by expert gunsmiths to customize and / or create / build parts and entire firearms. So given the ease of access to blue prints ask your friends how long it would take to make a real gun. Also for the record....tight tolerances and automatic designs...usually don't go together in the same sentence. SLOPPY is a good thing when dealing with mud, snow and other battlefield conditions. Rifling is actually fairly easy these days -if you have the tools...which black markets would have. Button rifling is how the big boys do it. They take a 'button' which is specced to a given caliber with the lands cut out of it (leaving the grooves poking OUT) and then push it down the barrel with a hydraulic ram. It cuts the rifling into the barrel with ease. Then ream out the chamber for a given SAMMI spec and presto...just about done.

I would never live in a city if I could help it. My nearest neighbour is over 2 miles away (by the crow flies). I grew up in NFLD and hunted since I was a child. Urban environments are not my style. Filled with way to many people out of touch with nature....and reality. I use my tools as tools. I hunt, I use them for pest control and more to the point NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Why should anyone have to justify their LEGAL ACTIONS to anyone else. Bloody nanny state. Next it will be salt....no computers. What do you use your computer for? Plenty of predators out there taking advantage of children! Better ban online forums...no ban computers. Its the only way to protect the children from the evils of the world. /roll eyes.

No need to apologize on spelling...we all suck at it. :P

@DK...I would wager you would be wrong. In fact, its very debatable on if I am in the minority. Most likely it is YOU. One of the platforms of the Conservative party was repealing the long gun reg....and we keep re-electing him. Gasp! Could it be that Canadians are sick and tired of lies the left have fed people for years? Nah, that would just be silly! /whistle.

I would be considered lefty looserberal or whatever. And I have no good proper use for a gun as I do not currently hunt, it would only be a toy. I live in the sticks and have some knives, various axes for splitting wood, etc. (I am not trying to take your guns away, do not hate me)

I do not want to see everything get banned. I like having some freedom when it comes to possessions and what can be done with them. I do not like it when idiots ruin everything and the rules get tightened up.

I have to say though, I have a really hard time justifying the idea of owning a semi-auto rifle.. for, say, hunting animals.
If I was to buy a gun I would want a nice big bolt action rifle for some distance shots(more reward for hitting distant moving target than something ten feet in front of you).. but then you have to walk over there and collect your kill... and carry it back because using ATVs for everything is lame and I am a man and would be hunting with manly friends who are not pansies.

But even that is like, well why am I using a gun for this? I could be using a bow. It might be neat to fire off a big cannon, but there is little sport in that. Too easy. But sneaking up to an animal and knifing it may be too difficult.(I actually do not know anything about the latter, I am just presuming that it would be tricky based on the fact that humans are a lot slower and louder than something like a cougar. and most animals have to watch out to stay alive, unlike dulled smelly humans.)

Anyway. I think there is an upper limit to how much firepower people really legitimately need for hunting. I get that it might be a neat experience but for practical every day use.. why? If you need an AR-15 or something for home defence ... MOVE.

Guns sort of go both ways. On one hand they are a mechanical device and make loud noises and that can be fun. But on the other hand they are purpose built for killing things so you have to be a hunter for them to be practical.

Reminds me of my Zippo lighter, I like my zippo with it's black ice finish but I do not smoke. I bought it because I wanted something to thaw my car's locks during winter but do not care for sissy bic lighters, and do not like chewing through batteries with heating devices. The lighter was also partially justified because I use a wood stove in the winter and having lighter fluid on hand in your zippo is great for sticker goo or pitch if you have a napkin or paper towel to dab with.

But that is it. You have to keep an eye on the fluid and make sure to refill, I do not use it any other times... unless you want to show someone that a cheezie will burn.
It is not practical. When I replace my current car I may no longer be able to use my lighter to thaw locks(if the locks on the new one even freeze much) because the body panels are all plastic and there is rubber or plastic or something around the recessed lock cylinder.
My lighter will be pretty useless to me at that point. It is made for smokers. There are better options for starting fires while camping.
I am not sure why I like my lighter. I am no firebug, fire is serious business and you do not screw around with it but I still like my lighter.

*shrug*

IDK where I was going with this. I should probably stay out of this thread since I do not have anything useful to say about guns. :P

LOL, actually you at least are honest.

Funny you should mention knifing animals instead of shooting them. A good friend of mine used to joke about using a loaf of wonderbred and a baseball bat. Train the dear in the off season to not be afraid of you and get them eating from your hand...then WHAM. Freezer full of meat on opening day. :P

I guess what I am really having a hard time understanding is your fear that someone is going to take your guns, or anything else that's regulated. I'm sure that my name goes onto a check list every time I buy fertilizer, every time I buy chemical and if I were to look for parts to make a pulsing uv laser I'd be surprised if I didn't get tagged for that too. And to a certain extent I'm glad. I use those things for production and to make neat toys, but they are dangerous in the wrong hands. Guns are the same way, I don't in any feel that they should be banned but they should be well regulated, and if you have a problem with someone knowing you own a gun (you, AKG obviously don't) then maybe you shouldn't own one.

To get back on topic, I really feel that the main problem with the US murder rates is the loss of respect in their media and political landscape. I really don't know the cause, but I see it happening here in Canada too and it really worries me. It's like people no longer feel the need to respect one another as a common courtesy but feel justified in ranting about and insulting people without even trying to see where the other person is coming from. It's sad really and it seems to self propagate.

Is this thread still here? And AkG is still ranting, and multiple people (including someone representing this site through reviews) are throwing around spurs and political jabs?

Way to keep the good name of the site up, Mods. :blarg:

And Akg. Shame. I thought better of you.

Thats OK. I dont think better of myself. But then again I dont take myself nearly as seriously as you take yourself mate. :P

Honest, its OT. But no one is ranting. For the most part its just a silly BS discussion (as if anything said here will change...well..anything! pfft I wish), that so far - by my rough estimate - has covered atleast 5 different topics.
For the record I dont represent anyone but myself. The day that changes is the day we get paid real money for what we do. Till then, its just a hobby. So, sagath stop taking the internet so seriously. You will enjoy it a LOT more. Personally Im just killing time while some tests are running on a testbed. YMMV but seriously life is to short to take everything as if its a life and death important :)

@KerryD yup. The states problem is their culture, not their gun buying habits.

Some NDP'ers opposed it too so I'm not sure how the 'libtard' thing works. Personally, I think the registry was a bad idea but dissolving it was more political than useful as much of it was already a sunk cost.

The Conservative Party is the new Liberal Party as it caters to the centre of the spectrum. As we see in this link, the PM doesn't agree with loosening gun restrictions and that's because he knows it'd be political suicide to do so.

I realize the validity of some of your arguments, although I do disagree with them. But to merely say that people who oppose your POV are 'libtards' denigrates the discussion and only reinforces the negativity.

This is one major reason why America cannot come to grips with the problem that this thread is about.

I don't know if it's video games. I don't know if it's mental health. I don't know if it's guns. I don't know if it's economic challenges. But I do know that I'd have the answer if people from all sides of the spectrum had a rational discussion, instead of resorting to name-calling that unfairly pigeonholes people into one camp and another and thus, immediately makes them adversaries that must win the argument, instead of people who can find a consensus.

I think I heard a story about someone in a nearby city doing that because of the deer problems. And I joke with a vegetarian that they should do it to feed their cat, since they do not eat meat but will buy and prepare meat for their cat.

RE: vehicles vs guns
If you made the laws lax I might not want to be on the roads. Unlike guns, everybody has their cars out basically every day and people are dumbasses. It would be really nice if we could trust people but I doubt that could happen.
If you went and put a ton of restrictions and new rules on having a vehicle and license people would complain just as with guns. Some people will still be morons though.

Do I want the rules for car ownership and road use increased? Well not really; convoluted bureaucratic bullshit is not very nice imo. But at the same time we do need some rules unless you could make every person actually care.(you cannot, their car is a magic box that makes them go to the places of their dreams and they do not give a shit about how it happens. And you cannot make then give a shit without dramatic widespread effects.)

The difference between legal gun and car ownership is that people who do not like guns do not need to have guns. People who do not like cars probably still need a car regardless of how unenthusiastic they are about it.
If everybody on the planet cared about cars and respected cars you would still have deaths. But perhaps not as many from people being retards.

On a similar note as trying to phase things out/ban/whatever. Remember the issue in the UK about pointy kitchen knives? My 12" cast iron pan is just as deadly with a blow to the head but nobody is trying to eliminate those..(and if they did I would be upset because my cast iron pans are amazing :D )

Anyway, back to guns.

.

well it may bring new peoples to monitor the forum, like the CSIS

AKG the difference with cars is that it is well regulated. You need a license to drive one and it takes years. Not to mention you can lose your license to drive while in the States it is easy to get a gun license and you pretty much can't lose it because it is your stupid right to own one. I am against banning all guns but would like some of them banned like rapid fire weapons as there is 100% no need for them in any scenario. The thing I want most though is it to be harder to get a gun license and get rid of the 2nd amendment as it is a stupid law.
