Virus Scanner

For me the most annoying one, while technically not a scanner is Norton internet security back in 2002 around. the program is so good at blocking internet traffic that it blocked the whole entire traffic, nothing worked and the settings couldn't be found. Heck uninstalling it was a hassle.

Wasn't that part and parcel of the whole system commander package (or something like that)? Had a client who couldn't figure out why her PC was so slow... the first clue was the fact that the HDD was chunking 24/7... something to do with the auto defrag settings in the nortons.

If they can vet their definitions for their Business Premium then I don't have any faith that their home version is going to be much better. There is no excuse for that. In all the years we've had the different flavours of Symantec on our servers that's never happened once.

vipre comes in many flavours.

I thought Avira or ESET were pretty decent for basic single user installations?

I don't remember I still have the cd for it though, I don't know why I kept it haha

I used to use vairious virus scanners of course not all installed lol. the one thingto really watch out for is that some of the free virus sscannerout there I don't remember which ones but they ataully install virus or two onto your PC , then you do the scan and the virus scanner says it found the virus's and says that the free version will only remvoed say 5 virus's but if you upgrade to the full non free subscribed version it will remove all.

I haven't had a virus on any of my PCs or laptops in years but I do use clam free av which I have installed on a pen drive that way if by some chance one of my systems gets infected the virus will not infect the virus scanner.
the other thing I do is use the online virus scanners and let it run over night.

Worst I've ever come across is Norton installed on top of AVG - uninstalling them both somehow broke link clicking in all browsers. Had to DBAN and reinstall.

Norton wins easily as the most annoying for reasons already listed. It especially loved to interrupt my online gaming sessions, particularly in the middle of an intense firefight, to tell me that it was going to protect me from online gaming- and the disconnect me.

Also a bitch to remove.

Been using WSE + Malware Bytes for protection for years now.

one of my biggest peive with Norton was the updates and scanning that for some reason seemed to happen when I was doing something like gaming or video editing. and also the resources it used . iused to have the updates and scans to be performed 3 am ( pc was on 24\7) .
but then again that was along time ago I don't bother with anti virus's installed on any of my machines I use a pen drive .
