Whats your latest purchase?

I finally ordered a new switch to be my main from Amazon. A managed 24 port poe+ one. Pretty expensive, so I risked an "open box" item.

Ohhh man. They shipped it in its regular box, no additional packaging, and the switch was literally loose and sliding around inside the box.

Amzn said they'd honor warranty and returns for it though, so I guess I've got to rush to test it in the next 30 days or so.

I really dislike this new shipping thing in the original packaging approach. Environmentally responsible... blah blah. Cost cutting measure I would guess over any real environmental concern. And the last thing I want is a valuable item sitting on my front doorstep when delivered in its original packaging for all the world to see! Not to mention that some of us care about original packaging and want it damaged as little as possible.

I've only had a couple shipments so far where I was given the option for extra packaging from Amazon, but I will always pick the extra packaging option!

Congrats on the switch! Hope it all works out for you.

If it makes you feel any better this is the box that the 12x32GB ram sticks showed up in. Ram was in anti static bag and bag placed in the box filled with bubble wrap. Definitely not a subtle size of box sitting on the front step.

I don't know about you guys, but Amazon stuff here is never packaged "well" in any sense of the word. Very minimal craft paper (if any) and typically never any of those air bags either. I just figure their warehouse picking is largely automated, a human puts it in a box and scans the items, then it gets loaded into a small van/car and delivered to you. Even the cardboard used these days is pretty thin on the boxes. I can't imagine it's going through a sorting machine like traditional couriers/mail services.

Yes that’s another problem. I agree! The last couple books I’ve ordered from Amazon, although I don’t do that often, have arrived with some damage because they were just mostly floating around in the box. Not enough damage to ship it back, especially with no guarantee that the next one would arrive any better, but it still irks me.

That is the biggest reason I try not to order books from Amazon, they always get damaged in shipping. If I have to get one shipped then I prefer Indigo since they usually package them properly.

cross my fingers then...wife just ordered a bunch of older books she wants. she has ordered a number of keto books recently too and they arrived undamaged.

Hope they show up fine. Also note I am super picky about the condition of my books.

I find the trick is to never order a single book. Order at least a few things that forces them to at least use a box. Cause it sucks when they put a book in one of those paper shipping bags that has zero protection.
