when are the i5 intel boards coming out

When Intel releases Core i5.

Performance increase, I'd guess it's around 20% slower than Core i7? That's with HT disabled on Core i7 of course.

I haven't seen anything suggesting the performance gap will anywhere near that big, actually. It's still the new architecture, albeit with some more on-die functions, and having "only" dual-channel memory isn't going to matter much outside of some synthetic benches and extremely memory-intensive apps.

Check out some of the benches here.

But to look at the roadmaps we've been seeing recently, it's sounding like the i5 processors are basically going to be limited to 4 threads, although depending on processor model, that could come from four cores, or two cores w/HT.

how much better would the i5 be over a q9550?

Considering the price between a 9550 right now, and a 920, not much is my guess (depending on stock speeds vs overclock speeds). I'm sure there is benchies out that show exact numbers, but, for me, in addition to a new mobo and ram, the price just isnt worth the upgrade, even over my 'old' Q6600.

from what i can read there is no ht on the core i5 just my take on it look at the number of threads and count the cores folks AnandTech: Intel Quietly Announces Core i5 and Core i3 Branding
right from anandtech mouth Four cores and HT enabled with turbo mode yields you a Core i7 on the desktop. If you only have support for up to 4 threads then you've got a Core i5; take away turbo and you have a Core i3. :thumb:

ok so check this out anandtech has one's that were ht enable but now intel says that there is not going to be ht on them ( my take from the anandtech article ) so what's it going to be
