Windows 10 is dead. Long live Windows 11...er, 12?

Another Verge article on Windows - which would mean another always on Internet connection required just for your OS. On the positive side, would this mean no MS bloatware on your computer?

Microsoft has been increasingly moving Windows to the cloud on the commercial side with Windows 365, but the software giant also wants to do the same for consumers. In an internal “state of the business” Microsoft presentation from June 2022, Microsoft discuses building on “Windows 365 to enable a full Windows operating system streamed from the cloud to any device.”

Microsoft wants to move Windows fully to the cloud

I don't think that 10 version is dead. Many people still use lower versions, but for me, Windows 10 is still very convenient and I am in no hurry to update it to version 11. In general, many people say that working with version 11 is unusual and therefore more difficult, so they even use tech guides for this. However, I like the idea that Microsoft has been increasingly focusing on cloud-based solutions, as evident in products like Windows 365, which allows users to stream a Windows desktop from the cloud to their devices.

@GeorgeNill Win 10 may not die but what MS Does is any new Features like DX,Direct Storage,???? will be locked to the new version of windows forcing you to change once it starts significantly improving performance in new ways like using ssd/vram as cache for loading huge game textures near instant.

win 10 as far as i know only has a emulation/wrapper for Direct Storage so wont be as good apparently as Win 11 implementation of this tech. but we have yet to really see if win10-11 will make a difference in this area.

Windows 10 is dead in that it no longer can be purchased from the retail channel. it has a couple years to go before it's EoL where if you don't move to 11 or whatever the latest Windows version is, you become a risk and hazard to everyone on the interwebz.

I don't see the problem with Windows 11 either - I just don't think anyone over the age of 35 like change!

That said, I wish Microsoft would stop trying to make Windows, which is primarily a desktop OS, look more a like a mobile OS - there is nothing wrong with menus!

I haven't played with it much becasue my work PC isn't compliant, but I've never had big issues with the changes. I know I'm in the minority, but VISTA was a fine OS...unfortunately it was a bit before it's time as the HW required wasn't up to snuff and MS let Intel bully them to certify their processors were when they weren't, which led to slow / glitchy operation.

also, I'm over 35 and take exception to your accusation! :D

Like Marzipan, I too am over 35, but I generally fall into the, 'I don't like change, UNLESS it's for the better' category. 😁

EXACTLY!!! I've been using Win 11 for a few months now ( @Marzipan, on a non-compliant PC ;) ), and like it ok... mostly..... BUT one thing that irks me, is the change they made to the right-click menu..... I have no idea why they thought shortening it, with a choice to "See more options" was an improvement. It's rather annoying to have to do some Registry editing, to restore that menu with ALL the previous options, plus add a few more! 🤬

But the old menu isn't translucent! Realistically, as apps update, they can make use of the native Win11 menu. WinRAR and Notepad++ both do now, but it's funny that VSCode still doesn't. I feel like so many apps shoved in their own right click menus that it was getting pretty bloated.
