Windows Labels cd/dvd-rw drive as cd

My old laptop (acer aspire 3610) after re installing windows seems to only recognize my cd/dvd drive as a cd drive. In the BIOS it is labeled as a cd/dvd drive but the drive can't boot from a dvd or read a cd. In windows it's given a generic cd drive and the acer website doesn't have a driver for the cd/dvd player. Any thoughts on it? The drive is a Philips SCB5265.

Windows XP sp3 sorry I haven't tried the solutions yet I will be tonight but I've been in summer school getting an extra credit. xD
 
ver. TD19 is the last firmware update for Philips SCB5265 for vista OS will also support XP

Note: only have this opticial drive mounted when flashing firmware, no others
