No, I must have missed that... are we talking fast food here, then no we're not paying for those bags as far as I know (but I'll check the receipt next time we grab some micky D's)

edit: yeah, went back and looked at the first post.... afaik we're not paying for take-out bags, but we do everywhere else (hallmark comes to mind).

McDonalds in Edmonton and every fast food place is enforcing it.
Yes I remember the videos of people taking buckets or like Rubbermaid containers to the drive-thru to have their food thrown into. Of all provinces, I was honestly surprised Alberta did such a thing.

I believe they have to due to the Edmonton bylaw don't they? Along with the ban on disposable plastic bags don't you have to charge for bags now?

I could be wrong on that I only vaguely remember the details of how Edmonton implemented it.

I do believe your right that it is actually a bylaw. But the bags are pure profit for the company at that point. Other regions bound to follow when you see 99.9% ROI on a paper bag. Some places don't even really let you skip the bag.

Oh absolutely companies are using it as an excuse to gouge. But won't you think of the poor CEO and his suffering yacht?

The LCBO stopped bags a few months ago but have gone back to paper bags here in Ontario . I think that alcohol not in a container is considered against the law . :)

Yes it is forced in Edmonton, city bylaw that somehow makes things "cleaner" for the environment. In reality I have seen way more garbage than before and it nothing but a pathetic attempt to pander to that crowd.

do they keep the bag monies or do those go to recycling like EHF deposits, etc.?
The money goes nowhere but back to the company. None of it has to go into any type of program or anything.

And of course it is stupid as hell. I mean you can go 5 minutes over to Sherwood Park or St. Albert and not pay for bags there. Entire thing is beyond stupid, right up there with the paper straw BS.
