Budget Gaming Build (update: video card upgrade)

Thanks everyone! Sorry I didn't get back here to post again...I provided this thread link to the kid making the computer (I'll help him actually assemble it and he is not in a huge hurry). The kid took the initiative and provided his own list as shown a few days ago...any red flags there or easy things to change up?
Appreciate all your comments so far:

So he plan on using the iGPU to game? He's in for a bad time using the iGPU on that 5600GT. Since it's close to the 5600G (I have it in my bedroom), the gaming performance is worst than a GTX 1060. So I would recommend buy a proper 5600X or non-X and pick up a used RX 5700 which goes around $150 to $200 on FBM in Vancouver area.

Man, there's a lot wrong with that build.

3rd Gen Ryzen will have ZERO upgradeability. As previously mentioned, IGP performance will be dismal. Why the high refresh rate monitor when he won't be able to push the pixels?

If it were me, I'd pick up a newer generation B650 motherboard, an 8500G, and a used 1080P monitor (60-75hz). He could probably find one for $15. The 8500G will have slightly better performance than the 5600GT, and the B650 board will be upgradeable for a few generations of CPU.

Then he can save his pennies and later on down the road upgrade to a proper video card, and a decent high refresh rate monitor when he can actually make use of it. An upgrade CPU like a 9600X would slot right in, too.

With the list of games he said he plays, a iGPU might be good enough to start. But I'll certainly push him for a better one.

Thanks again. I do plan to sit down with him and go over the comments you have posted...I assume he has looked himself here, but it worth it to take a look with him.

I would suggest he keeps on eye on CC's bundle page (nothing good right now): https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/bundle along with BAPCSales: https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/

Perhaps even Best Buy or similar, for example: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/produc...ram-512gb-ssd-geforce-rtx-3050-win11/18168808 for $999 is better already. Add in his $130 monitor and it's good to go and within budget.

Will do these look good.

Appreciate the advice folks.

I am with the others in that I would definitely make changes to those choices.

Most importantly I would not use that psu.

The rest will all work, but by shopping sales/bundle deals you can get much better for the money.

To be completely honest I would probably recommend a pre-built instead if you don’t want to deal hunt at the component level. Intel 12400/rtx3050 based pre-built aren’t going to set records, but they were not far off the price of what’s in the parts list last time I checked….i will see what I can find.

Memory express has a 5800XT bundle @ $380 if $130 would make a difference in gpu. (Assuming he'd be OK with older gen hardware).

This is a solid combo.

+Thermalright Peerless Assassin CPU cooler $50
+Arctic Silver MX-4 Thermal paste $30

+SK Hynix P41 1TB NVMe or WD SN850 1TB NVMe ~ $110
+Seasonic 850W PSU ~ $150
+RX6800 GPU ~$400-500
+Corsair 3000D Case ~ $80
+Fans $50

Not saying this is perfect, but for $800 it is a much better deal than the current parts list IMO. Ryzen 5700, rtx3050, 16gb ram, 1TB nvme, case/psu/etc. it’s the best budget box I see right now. Alternatively there are some rtx4060 setups, but they are over $1100.

That said I would still recommend waiting for a discounted am5 combo in order to get on a longer enduring platform, but it would involve closing watching sales and buying piece by piece.
