5870 & 5850 in Crossfire

Will they be faster than a pair of 5850s?

No. If you have currently have a 5870, and add in a 5850 it will be faster than either single card, but not faster than 2 5850's. The extra processing power in the 5870 is wasted, and I think it's because each card renders alternate frames. I could be wrong about that, though.

IMHO, the only time you would benefit is if you got a smoking hot deal on one of the cards.

If you are looking at a 5870 and a 5850 and have that much money to spend (about $700 total on average), you might as well go 5970 instead. It will be faster than 5850 in crossfire but slower than two 5870 in crossfire.

If you have a 5870 and are thinking of spending money on a 5850, I'd save up for another 5870.

If you have a 5850 and are thinking of spending money on a 5870, get the 5850 instead.

I have one 5850, and can get a 5870 for 250$ - same price as the 5850 now...
Very tempting to get the 5870, but if it won't perform faster, I'm better off with a 5850. Less power consumption, heat, etc.

Good idea, haven't thought about this...
LOL I'm so dumb :haha:

mais no. reminds me of the time some dude bought me old truck for 1k even though i told him 500 was ok...some ppl lol.
