All I can vouch for is the 7950 does OC better than most from my experience and what I have seen, and I can hypothesize that AMD gives the user more freedom to OC than Nvidia. More freedom =/= better overclocks though, because it doesn't matter if the slider is locked if you can't hit that max limit! :doh:

Linus definitely seems like shill city (as if the Intel ad at the start of the video didn't give it away :shok. TBH, he didn't really even mention the 7950 beating it through the video, but just focused on Nvidia vs. Nvidia performance...

While I agree apples to apples is most truthful, a review like his makes for an interesting read/listen/watch when there are hundreds of apples to apples reviews!

Still think it would be good to give oc vs oc results while making perfectly clear it's based on the silicon lottery would be a good addition even here.. though not really needed as people can just skip to the oc results in each card and se what it does.. But then there is driver revisions / game patches etc skewing the results when trying to compare (which is why I'd like oc versions of each card or the closest 2 in the oc results)

All this said I have one problem with NV vs AMD at the mo and thats the artificial limits NV are setting on their cards..

Does it mean you more likely to hit the oc everyone else gets? Hell yea BUT your not necessarily getting the best your card can do.

The thing is,it's pretty crazy, when not OC,the 760 destroys the 7950 and when oc it looks like the 7950 destroys the 760,by 7-10 fps,at least for Linus...seriously...

I know that OC results are different for every card but still,you should be able to outperform a 760 with a 7950 all the time.


The 7950 not oc,760 oc and 7950 oc are like 660,660ti and 670,holy cwap..

I believe his 7950 was at 1100/1375, and the GTX760 was at +100 core and +100 mem or something like that (by the sounds of it, mem should be higher clocking than that - though it may just be select models. MSI model had 1900 MHz memory OC - WHAT!).

With the price of the 7950 on a constant decline these days as well, things just got rather interesting. While I'm completely impartial to both Nvidia and AMD, I'm not completely sold on the 7XX series yet, especially with AMD prices going south.

If the 7970 were to hit the $300 mark, it'll surely crown AMD the "price to performance" king.

I hope someone from AMD marketing is looking at this because you are so right! If the 7970's would hit $300 without any rebates, especially combined with a newer never settle game bundle, then they would sell volumes of cards. I'd buy for sure!

That would never happen. A 7970 is more powerful than a GTX770, which is easily at $450 after the etailers have applied thier usual markup. Why would AMD voluntarily cut pricing on a premium product, especially when they would have to then cut the prices of all the cards below it.

Luckily for AMD, I actually work in marketing so they're more than welcome to hire me! :haha:

The 770 is on par with the 7970 GHz edition if anything, not to mention newer and therefore (perceivably) better. Prices have already been cut on the 79XX series, with the 7970 going all the way down to $350 without rebates. Now, I do think $300 is a bit of wishful thinking but it might just be worth it for AMD to try and gain some market share and build brand loyalty.

I'm interested in seeing a direct comparison between the 660 ti and the new 760 since i recently bought a Zotac Dual silencer 660ti for 70 $ cheaper than the retail 760.
It just makes sense to compare the 2 since the 760 is the replacement for the 660ti
