This feels like a solution without a problem.

Pin soldering is cheap and I doubt this method costs less than the old fashioned way. Since motherboards sit on standoffs having a small solder bump doesn't make a difference either. Nor are the bumps sharp enough to really be an issue.

Feels like a gimmick to me. I'm not opposed to it, but I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it.
 
chances are this will be another problem if the board gets tossed to hard in shipping it would break or not make proper contact. this feels like just another thing that can go wrong.
 
Back before surface mount packages became the norm you used to shred your hands every time you reached into a computer. Everything was dual inline packages, with the pins protruding through the cards. I'm talking early 90's, when we had to add network cards to PC's because they didn't come with them onboard and ethernet was over coax cable.

it still happens even today any cooler with those aluminum fins those things cut like razors.
