I really do think this is more than most would spend on gaming rigs honestly. You are right though, i could go the dual GPU route, but I really don't see a huge benefit as I'm not going to be doing anything over that 1440 resolution monitor. Granted, i'll have a few monitors plugged in, but mainly for multi-tasking's sake. I'm not sure how many people set up raids as much anymore as cloud storage is becoming more affordable/effective. To each his own i guess.

What do you mean depending on where i live should i reconsider the SSD choice. U.S. if that helps.

Samsung doesn't have the best reputation for warranty issues on their SSDs in Canada ;)

And at a 1440 resolution the GPU you selected is WAYYYYYYYY more than needed lol

What he means is that the Samsung 840 EVO is a pretty 'crappy' drive for a single reason. It uses 3-bit TLC NAND, which means it stores 1.5-times more information per cell than 2-bit MLC NAND. The downside is that it degrades faster than MLC NAND. An 840 EVO will eventually slow down and fail faster than a comparable drive using MLC NAND.

If you're deadset on going Samsung, go with the 840 PRO, as it uses 2-bit MLC NAND, and is still one of the faster drives out there. The Crucial M500 is another recommended drive, as is the OCZ Vector.

That makes more sense. I guess I was a bit confused on the differences. In that event, I may go with the 256 gb ssd and put more reliance on the big tb one for storage. And no, I'm by no means dead set on samsung. If you guys think there is a better 256/512 variant out there by all means let me know. Curious though, degradation wise, what is the time lines we are looking at? 6 months? 5 years?

You are right about the 1440, it is way more. But two other factors i probably should have mentioned.

1- im going to OC this to 90-120 hz.

2 -I do a fair amount of botting, so having 10+ instances of a game going at any given point really can get taxing on a gpu, even with everything turned down :P

You're probably looking at 5 years, in all honesty. BUT, all other things being equal, some drives are better than others.

So based on that. I've kind of narrowed it down to these -

The samsung 840 pro; albeit better than the the evo, still is pretty scary deterioration wise even at 100tb.
