Windows 10 Fall Creators Update - wait

Complete success on take 2! I am using Classic Start so I have no issues with the icons and the apps, and I also downloaded the iso image with the update as i want to make a USB install disk.

Just finished the FCU on my HTPC. No hiccups. I have no clue why my main rig acted like a fresh install. I have 2 more laptops to check this on soon so we'll see what happens next.

That's the frustrating part of the current state of Win10 up"grade/date"s, and features. Compatibility seems to be random with many reports of identical hardware+software profiles reacting differently to updates and/or features.

One laptop done, another migration fail. Logged in like the first login. In the user folder is a migration folder, as well as a "username.pc_name" folder and a "username." folder. Like the migration stopped part way through. All system setting are back to default. This was a full hands off through the website, I let it download, countdown timer to running the update, and logged in only after the login screen showed up. No rhyme or reason.

Updated fine on my main machine, no issues beside switching my desktop wallpaper to the default one...

I still didn't do the last creators update on my machine. I just don't feel like redoing everything and uninstalling crap apps and all that. I wouldn't mind the onedrive improvements and the GPU usage but just not willing to deal with the other crap yet. Maybe I'll do it once I have had a chance to do up a custom image at work that strips out the crap apps and such.

I know we got spoiled by how stable W7 was at the end of it's supported life, but this constant (twice yearly) complete re-installation over top of an existing OS instance has me going back to the bad old days of wanting to do a fresh install every year or so.

I'm sure adding features as part of a total system upgrade makes the job of MS's coders easier than attempting to patch new features into existing code, but that same benefit then becomes a liability when it comes to third party software/drivers.

That is why i downloaded the image, to make a fast installation whenever is needed.
