Divinity: Original Sin 2 ?

I never played the first, so I'm not sure. Apparently there are some references back to the first one, but having not played it I couldn't tell you what they are. At one point there's a part where they mention a lot about Braccus Rex, who I gather was the "big baddie" in the original, but the game stands well enough on it's own that I don't think you're missing too much by not playing the first one.

I've had the first one on my backlog for a long time, but reviews for the second were stellar. IGN/Gamespot/etc were all largely high 9's or 10s. I think it was PC Gamer's GOTY for 2017.

I'll hit both eventually, my backlog between GOG and Steam (not to mention consoles) should have me embarassed though.

I think one of my favourite things to do in the co-op campaign is to pickpocket vendors and transfer all the stolen goods to my teammates inventory. He gets so confused when the shopkeeper calls the guards to arrest him for being a dirty thief

Pretty good vid I found discussing the game and what makes it so good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9Ndwt9LhzM&t=

Pfff... you and me both. I've got so many games I want to play that I haven't gotten around to... and I keep buying them faster than I play them. Damn Steam/Green Man/Humble sales...

I think we are all in that boat! More than once I have actually caught myself pondering buying a game I already have! Thank goodness for the little "In Library" flag! :bleh:

But I still got ridiculously excited over Xeven giveaway thread!

Hehe, just when you think you've mastered this game and nothing can touch you.
End of Act 2, I'm rolling over everything without a sweat. Came across a little pack of 3-4 critters. Figure it was easy XP & loot.

They launch an AOE madness attack and my ranger/rogue who is running Glass Cannon, thus has no resists vs magic attacks FREAKS.
She goes ham on my entire party, killing two of them with one AOE shot, then finished off the 3rd guy with her second. Back to the loading screen to re-do the fight, this time with a little more respect for those <whatevertheywere>

That alone makes me want to pick it up.... :)

I've seen this described as a cRPG in one place, but from the sounds of it the combat is turn based? Hows the party character AI and/or default combat selections for secondary party characters? (Or do you have no choice but to manage each character individually?)

Yeah it's turn based. Similar to D&D actually - characters with high initiative get to act first. If you're playing on your own you control all party members - there's not any AI involved, unless it's an npc who just happened to be in the area or if you picked one up as part of a quest.

How good is that AI though? Let me put it this way: When the enemy AI takes control of my characters (such as with a charm spell) they use them FAR more effectively than I ever would. I've actually learned some pretty nasty combos just from watching what they did with them :)

One fight I distinctly remember: I'd carefully prepared the battleground pre-engagement. Had explosive traps carefully placed next to oil barrels, had my ranged characters on the high ground, melee characters near their casters. AI enemy got to go first. What do you think they did? They teleported my heaviest hitter right into the explosive trap, setting all the oil barrels on fire and killing him instantly. The enemy AI is very, very good. Pathing AI for your characters is pretty solid too. They won't, for example run through a bunch of poison to keep up with you, rather, they'll try to navigate a path around, and if that's not possible they'll stop outside the poison. I'm super impressed with it.

Oh yeah, one other thing I'd be remiss if I didn't mention: The voice acting is top notch. Lots of these rpg games can be very text heavy, but the voice acting is so well done I find myself stopping to listen to the entire conversation rather than just reading the text and skipping through like I would in many other games.

They even have voice acting for the random animals in the game world that you can talk to if you have the pet pal talent. I guess I lied - I did skip through some of the voice acting of the oxen as he was like the sloth in that pixar movie - took forever to say anything. It was very fitting for a big, slow moving ox though.

hehe yes the teleport gloves in the first act are hugely nice I didn't even know about them until my last redo build I stumbled across them they helped me out allot

Apparently if you sell them to a vendor as the vendor levels up so does the equipment in their inventory. So you can sell him those gloves at level 3 or whatever they are, then buy them back later on at level 16 or whatever, and they'll have the corresponding stat boost too. Just found that out today.
