Completed Lian-Li PC-011 Air (RGB) Something old - Something new

Waiting on a UPS delivery today for the case and the fans, but I've got a few shots of the WC kit that's not already installed in my current rig....

Day 3 WC Kit overall.webp

Daz (as usual) came through for my WC needs with an order of clear tubing and a bottle of blue Mayhems dye. Not sure what we'd do if Daz ever decided to fold up shop... Canadian WC distributors are few and far between, and shipping prices listed for WC kit shipped from the US through either Newegg or Amazon Marketplaces are ridiculous.

Day 3 WC Kit tube res.webp

Cheaparse tube res I found on either Amazon or Newegg... cost me less than $30 and it'll finally get me off of the bay res teat so that I'm not heavily limited in my case choice (not a lot of cases these days with 2X 5 1/4 bays).

Because I went with clear tubing this time around (soft coloured tubing is getting hard to find) I'm going to try out some dye. I'm still sticking with distilled water + Petra so we'll see how that goes.

Day 3 2Rads upright.webp

Day 3 2Rads landscape.webp

Two of three possible rads for this build... the one on the right is the Thermalchill (PA120.2) that I'm pretty sure came from 3.0Charlie's old stock wayyyy back in the day. It sure as hell looks like a beast when compared to the ekwb, but references I've found suggest that it's pretty much a performance tossup between it and slimmer modern day rads. Both rads could use a paint touch up.... ;)

I had the same issue with my 240mm rad on the h100i in the lian li. I was able to jury-rig a fan below the rad.

Your image isn't displaying, but going back and looking at the pics in your build log I can see that there appears to be room for fairly significant gaps between the fan bodies. That gives me hope that I'll be able to fit it in, but I've done some pretty significant modding to the fan bodies I was already working with so I suspect I'll have to start over.... :)

It's bigger than I expected. Hard to tell from pictures alone even if you're given reference points. Newegg has it listed as a mid-tower, but I'd suggest that it's mid-tower only in how tall it is... the second chamber makes it wide enough that you'd almost have to call it a full sized tower, especially considering how much room there is up top for a rad.

I installed the 3 RGB fans up front, and played around with rad placement a little bit this evening but I doubt I'm going to be able to dive into the build until some time next week (Major family event here on Canada Day).

From what I'm seeing so far.... getting a 240 + a third fan up top is going to be next to impossible if I want to populate all three front fans. With that in mind, I'm leaning towards 240s on the side and bottom cooled with 2 ML120s each (the case mounts are designed in such a way that the rads can be placed so that they don't look like they're installed lopsided), and then the two sets of 3 RGB fans moving air from the front and then out the top.

Maybe I'll take a fit after this build and shoot for dual 360 rads + hard tubes on my next one.....

As you mentioned we do have to keep buying stuff from Daz so he doesn't go out of business! ;)

Are you OK with the case being bigger/wider?

Yeah, that's fine... I've got lots of real estate on m desk(s). It's just going to give me a hernia moving it around once it's built. :)

Can't be as bad as my Cosmos 2 though...but I guess I have handles at least.

It's interesting how we've gone from building full new PC's to simply doing case swaps and cooling upgrades on existing hardware though.

I dunno... my Cosmos S was pretty damn heavy when populated, but the case itself wasn't all that heavy empty. This bloody thing has a 25lb shipping weight!

As far as case vrs hardware swaps goes... the PC upgrade cycle has certainly lengthened significantly over the last decade (or more), but I personally always did fairly regular case transplants... I guess building loops in new cases is the part of the hobby I enjoy the most.

Plastic Standoffs.webp

Spent the morning installing the upper three fans and playing with positioning of the side mount rad. Also played around with pump placement/res mounting and have come to the conclusion that the above kit of M3 spacers/hardware is my new favorite case building tool. (It will figure prominently in mounting the res as well as allowing me to display my intel skull at the forfront like I did with my last build)
