New Kicking Build is on nigh!

I got the call earlier today!
YAY!!!!!
My AMD 5950X CPU came in and over yonder I went to fetch it.....SWEET!
I'm feeling like a kid at X-mas:)
I've been watching various retailers checking to see if anyone is getting new CPU's in stock but no one is it seems. I feel most fortunate getting my CPU. I've been after my source since before reveal day and I think it's paid off for me. I even got it at the lower price before they upped it:)
That's my story, now to patiently await my new GPU........

Question.....swapping out a 3700x with a new CPU is just that, a straight up swap? Cleaning off old thermal paste and applying new compound of course then re-attaching AIO cooler?

Should be fine, but resetting the cmos after the swap would absolutely ensure there aren't any hidden settings that might not be optimized for the new CPU.

Thanks sswilson, good call that!
I'll have to read up on that to ensure I do it right. My current bios is one short of the most recent.

cheers

Yeah, that's a slightly different thing, but at the very least you should ensure that the bios version you have installed supports 5XXX processors.

Resetting cmos would be a couple of pins that get shorted out. You might not need it though... more than likely just selecting "load optimum defaults" would set everything right for the new processor.

Congrats on the CPU find!

If you are uncertain about the cmos reset, you should be fine with loading defaults in bios, shutdown, do the cpu change. CMOS reset will absolutely work though.

Key thing I recommend in this case is making sure you are on the latest bios first.

Latest bios that isnt using the 1.1.0.0 AGESA. That thing is a train wreck right now it looks like.

Okay and thanks for the comments! I've Q Flashed twice before building and both Bios are set for 5000 series CPU's.
Not understanding the latest BIOs AGESA train wreck situation........?
I will get my act together tomorrow and get er done! Don't be surprised my asking for more advice......long day today so the brain is telling me to chill:)

Thing of BEAUTY! Congrats and Merry Christmas to you!

Do you think AMD stamped out a billion IHS when they first developed the Athlon 64, and that's why they continue to use the same design to this day? :p

Thanks and right back at you and a Happy New Year(everyone)!
So I got er done. I installed the latest Bios F31q and swapped out the 3700x with the 5950x. I'm thinking of getting Aida 64 in the near future to see what's what. I won't be selling the 3700x as It looks like my wife is good with updating our old desktop with the 3700x and a modest MB/RAM upgrade which is cool! It was her idea...ha

Cheers
