I lost so many hours trying to get my creative soundblaster awe64 working with doom, duke nukem 3d, and others games in the days.

That Pentium II 233 mmx with 64mb ram, and a Rage IIc agp 4mb.

I went one further, and configured 2 different sound cards in the same PC (different audio formats). IIRC I had to install one, configure the software/boot config for it, then pysically remove it and install the second to configure it before putting the initial card back in.

Don't remember exactly what the two cards were (one might have been a Gravis Ultrasound), but I believe one card did the sound blaster format while the other did ad-lib?

I had a Gravis Ultrasound... Wow I haven't thought of that in a long time!

Remember the pain of forgetting to set the Slave and Master on HDD's? Oh...the Horror...

My brain also to this day still has config.sys and autoexec.bat folders somewhere up there. I see them when I close my eyes...

You had to be reasonably wealthy to have more than one spin point drive back then. My pentium 2 PC had a 10 meg drive and everyone thought it was huuuge!

I think you need to try re-remembering what your HDD size was in that P2 cause i had a 25MB HDD with my 8088...and that's HELLA old in comparison to a P2.
