You may want to take a look at my home server build log here: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/case-mods-worklog-gallery/67102-emeralds-home-server.html
I was having performance issues with my raid card because of heat, and even though I had decent airflow in the case, I had to get a high...
That is what I am looking for, and I had found that too, but I question whether the measurements are accurate.
I had also found this
Which lists things slightly differently. I was hoping somewhere there was a set official standard and spec I could go by.
I had turned up that too, but I was more looking for the specs on the case cutouts and the placement of the retention screw and such (these), but couldn't seem to find any.
Does anyone know where to find the dimensions specifications for the sizing and spacing of holes cut into the case for expansion cards, along with their relative position to the io shield area? I have looked around and found www.formfactors.org, which seems to have literally everything but this...
You really need to supply some more information. What is this computer going to be used for? Gaming? Video Editing? Work in CAD? Internet/Email only?
What GPU are you planning on using? The one integrated into the i7? Or a dedicated card?
Assuming that this is going to be used for gaming, here...
I thought about going with ITX, but I couldn't find any ITX cases that I liked, that also held all the hardware I wanted. Plus the mATX was just slightly cheaper for the MoBo and stuff. The hard drives actually run at decent temps right now, the cages actually would allow up to 4 more drives to...
Well I know black drives are pretty different from Reds and Greens and Blues, the main difference being that black drives have 2 controller chips on them and a little larger cache (64mb) I think. I am guessing the actual read/write heads and platters are relatively the same though.
Well if your ambient temperature is 90°F, thats definitely not going to help things, but you can still run an overclock depending on the temperatures you are getting. It really just depends on how good your air-cooling is and what temperatures you find acceptable.
For CPU's if you are using an...
Yeah, it was about the only way to get a fan right there where I needed that I could think of that wouldn't look completely ghetto. I turned out pretty decent really. I added the spacers between the expansion slot cover and the actual mount to position the fan a little bit better relative to the...
For a pentium, this is a rocking little chip. Really impressed with it. Heck in a couple of those its right up there with the stock clock of the i7-920 I have in my desktop.
Also I forgot to mention.
I am looking for a name for this server. As in a name to give it in Windows. I haven't been able to think of anything I like. I would like something that goes along with a theme, so that I can name the minecraft and teamspeak servers this will be running in a similar...
So a while ago, I decided that it would be nice to have a home server for a couple of reasons. I was running out of space for backups, and external drives just weren't really cutting it anymore. I wanted a computer I could leave on all the time and have some server applications running (a few...
I think Blacks and RE's are the actually different, or at least different controllers since you can get RE's in both a SAS and SATA config. They are probably very, very similar, the main difference being TLER.
I have read too the Red's are really just green drives with TLER turned on too. Not...
