Effective March 8, 2026, BC will apply permanent daylight time. This means the following:

• Will not roll back in Nov. 2026
• Will now have 2 separate timezone in the west coast as US will roll back in Nov as they need Congress approval
• Timezone math will be messed up with the rest of Canada
• Timezone math with the rest of the world will be messed up for a while
• All your electronics that auto adjust DST will be messed up until there's an update or it may never happen at all

Meetings with clients will be interest.

Northeast BC hasn't used DST in many years.

Tbh, DST needs to die. So dumb.

The Yukon switched in 2020. The BC gov't has had the mandate to do it since 2019, but was waiting for Washington, Oregon and California. With the current political background they ain't gonna wait no more. And to be clear, we will be on permanent Daylight Savings Time year round which will now be called Pacific Time. I won't miss it getting dark at 4 pm in December.

I am so happy about this. I rarely need to worry about time outside of my time zone in any functional sense. I have been waiting for this for years. Ever since the legislation was passed.

DST is such an outdated and useless institution.

Hopefully the states on our coast follow suit soon.

It's going to be confusing because prior to the change, we are on Pacific Standard Time which people just call Pacific Time. Now officially the perm DST is Pacific Time. Going to confuse the hell out of people when I setup meetings with clients.

You can either add a time zone disclaimer in your meeting invitation or hope they can rub two brain cells together. Because people in different time zones have been meeting together virtually for many years.

Just say UTC-7.

Perhaps, but usually it was "PT" or "PDT" during DST and "PST" during Standard Time? At least that's what I tend to do for EST and ET/EDT.

People might say "British Columbia Time" or "Vancouver Time" now as the slang?

That's too high of an expectation when I can't do that myself most of the time.

We used GMT for all aircraft maintenance forms, and had both local and GMT clocks in the workroom, but had to get DST/PST fixed in our mind when the clocks changed. (Basically get GMT -8 or -7 depending on PST/DST).
