BC will move to permanent daytime time

I'd love to see Alberta make the same move. The referendum in 2021 voted 50.2% in favor of keeping the DST system and I can't fathom why. The entire DST concept was a fuel consumption adjustment in WW1. Not only is that an outdated concept, but we also live in a digital world where electricity and fuel consumption skyrockets in the evening no matter what. Purely based on people going out after work, jumping online, playing games, movies, etc.. No DST changes are going to make a difference. Couple that with the spike in accidents because of tired drivers, the misery of shifting kids rhythms when you're a parent, and the general chaos it causes... it's crazy that this hasn't been tossed many years ago. If that means clients and vendors need to make accommodations for meetings, then I don't see the real problem.

I do know a few people that voted against it. Asking them why it is because they wanted to keep it the other way. Get rid of daylight saving time but in the opposite state.

Was a post today on locals city FB group, some people voted this way as they didn't want the sun to come up at 10:30 in winter. Not sure the difference between that and having sunset at 430pm.

Feels like it's split based on the type of job people work. If they have outdoor jobs, they want the morning sunlight. If they have an indoor job, they want the evening sunlight. I've seen others say they don't want kids to be walking in the dark... to which I say, change school times. For that matter, we can also change work times lol

For Ontario, the argument is the stock market with NYSE? To which I also say, why? Market is open till 8pm now, and I believe they're pushing to allow more trading at all hours. The world is very much in a 24/7 cycle now, we don't work sun up to sundown.

Anyone remember when stores had "winter" and "summer" hours too? That wasn't even that long ago. There was even a time when Sunday most things were closed!

Depends. If a right wing grifter calls changing woke, they won't. I wish I was joking, but their policy is basically dictated by far right podcasters now so....

Maybe someone can bribe Bissent, Patel or Miller enough to whisper into the orange one's ear that antifa loves DST and they'll knee jerk change it...

Interesting push back. At least one RN is arguing that it should be the other around and not use perm spring forward because it will be darker in winter.
