I am looking to purchase a 1 TB drive.
Can anyone tell me what's the difference in performance between
WD black 64mb ver. vs WD Green 32mb ver. vs other brand.

I looking to spend about $80 on the harddrive. I have a SSD already, so it will just used for storage (movie and music) and might be some games.

Can someone give me their insight on these harddrive?
 
Black is 7200RPM, it's a high performance drive. Good for running your operating system off of it. The Green is 5200RPM, and is good for a storage drive. Seagate has the same sort of deal going. The 7200.12's are their performance drives, whereas the LP drives are 5200RPM and are good for storage.
As for Hitachi and Samsung, or any other brand, I'd assume their performance in general would be pretty close to that of the 7200.12 and Caviar Blacks, with (I believe) the Black being the fastest, but most expensive, of the bunch.

So, even if I have an SSD for OS. It should still buy the 7200 rpm.

Which brand new more reliable in general? Seagate, Hitachi or Western Digital?
 
Well don't use your 1TB for an OS if you have a SSD, use the 1TB for storage purposes. I've had experience with Seagate and Western Digital and you can't go wrong with either of them. I heard though that one of Seagate's hard drives are notorious for failing , but i believe that isn't the 1TB Lpfan4ever suggested.
 
Yeah, it was the 7200.11's the had a real issue, if I recall correctly. If you want to use it solely for storage, such as movies, music, and the like, then go with a WD Green or Seagate LP. If you plan to run stuff off of it, or are going to be accessing it a lot, then look at the Seagate 7200.12's, WD Blacks, WD Blues, Hitachi Deskstars, and the Samsung F1's. Since you said you might put games on it, I'd say go for the latter just in case you do. I've never owned any 1TB drives besides the WD Blue, and it works nicely. I only use it for storage though, so it's a bit of a waste. I also own two Hitach Deskstar 500GBs, which have both performed quite well in a RAID0 for my OS drive. The WD Blacks are really only useful if you're running them as an OS drive though.

As for the specific drive, I'd say look at the price and warranty and see what appeals to you. I can't say for sure, but I doubt there's much performance difference between any of the drives, aside from the WD Blacks.

At the price of that Seagate, I'd go for that. I haven't heard anything overly negative towards the 7200.12 line, so I think it should do fine.
 
I like that my 1.5TB LP(+another for it's full backup) does not just spin down whenever it feels like it.
from what I hear the greens spin down when not used for a certain period of time. >_>
