6850 or a 6870

6850 all the way. Got a Pair of XFX's for a friend of mine, solid cards. If you have a high high res then 6870 is best.

Great cards, though the fan profile on the XFX is a little aggressive, so perhaps the Gigabyte one would work.

what do you mean they are aggresive?

never heard that before referring to fan placement, no idea what it means.

Also, i love xfx lol, i ordered 2 6850s today, can't wait for them to arrive.

edit: speak of the devil, jsut checked, they are in shipping now, maybe i'll get em today

I think he means the stock XFX fan profile is set to have higher fan RPMs at a given temperature compared to reference cards.

6850

overclock to 100oghz, you get the same performance of stock 6870

Price for 6870 seems to be too high for mid end card

Yeah, lets see if mine are just really early model ones or what, but at idle according to Catalyst the damn fans were running 72%. Thats a little extreme all things considered.
Otherwise, a nice run of Furmark Multi and I never got major temp spikes.

They are a nice set of cards, though my friend right now is tweaking them and I believe he just got his multi-monitor setup.

sorry to ask again, never got a response, but cant you just change the fan speed in catalyst control?

Oh, I missed that part. I know you can in CCC, but it was just really odd. Usually for most cards you should be able to trust the fan profile, or if I'm doing that in a client build who doesn't know better...CCC adjustments might not be ideal.
