8GB VRAM performance review

I've had a quick look, and there doesn't appear to be much in the way of a definitive guide WRT what settings can be individually dialed back in order to reduce VRAM usage. Is it really just down to the quality settings of the texture packs being used? (I don't remember for sure.... did reducing resolution to 1080p make much of a difference, or was it still a hard wall of 7GB+ usage?)
Off hand I would think texture quality would be the biggest setting, followed by AA and ray tracing...obviously game dependent, but those are probably going to make the biggest VRAM impact overall I would think.

Yeah, some games actually put in a VRAM use setting, so you can see what does what live when you change settings.

Off the top of my head (one of the) Call of Duty, as well as The Last of Us, have this feature....I think Far Cry, or maybe it was one of the similar style games (Tom Clancy series?) also had it.

Generally texture quality (of various sources, environment/character, etc) will be the biggest hit.

Edit: Quick search shows lots of games actually show it; Monster Hunter, Red Dead, Warzone, amongst others.

AMD is ribbing Nvidia about RAM again and I snigger, cause shortly after they did this last time, they released a GPU with low RAM. wonder if that'll happen again this time :p
Haha. Possible…I don’t really care if it’s a lower end card, but on the higher end it shouldn’t be the case…we will see!

I would be more impressed if AMD would actually release something instead of poking the bear. They are doing consumers no favours by lowering the cost of their last generation cards. They are trying to clear inventory and make it look like they are being the gamer's best friend, and yet, no mid range competition for NVidia.

Unless AMD does something, NVidia is just going to roll with their own plans. And we, the consumer, are not being served well by either.

it's true, they need to do what they did with Intel and Ryzen... shake things up with some shock and awe! do the unexpected!

I just find the entire thing a little funny (and sad). I mean hell I had 11gb on my 1080ti cards and they came out in 2017.

Now that said I mean it is not 100% vram size, bandwidth matters too. But still when I was playing CP2077 I looked and vram was anywhere from about 16 to 20gb used on my 3090.
