Welcome to Alberta!

Since you're moving to the area, make sure to try Chartier in Beaumont, it's either the best or 2nd best French restaurant in the area in most polls (usually trades places with 'The Marc' downtown). It's fantastic.

And my condolences to your in-laws :haha:

Chartier is a great place to eat at. Def keep an eye out for their burger nights on Tuesdays , it's some of the best burgers you'll be eating in that region hands down.

And if I can recommend another restaurant , Hardware Grill downtown is my favorite place to go.

Can't really comment on real estate but a friend of mine lives in the Orchards and apparently crime has increased quite a bit in that area. I would also avoid the Chapelle area to the South West.

I'll take all good restaurant recommendations. I love good food.

Important stuff first: You'll be able to find Wild Rose everywhere out here. If you're looking for the best selection of beers in town head to Sherbrooke Liquor.

I talked about doing a meet-up when I first got out here, seemed to be quite the interest at the time but I never put effort in to actually setting up a date & time. Maybe this spring. I find summers and winters are hard to motivate people, with xmas/vacations etc...

This sounds great. Let's make it happen.

Yes I am, but that's not the topic :)

Meant this week in general. Still was chilly with the wind today, went to the dog park and half way through the dog headed back to the entrance lol

Welcome to Alberta! I like the Brewster in Oliver area for good eats, they only serve their beer but they have some good ones. Check out Mercer Tavern downtown, they have an awesome Mac n' cheese. Whyte Avenue area has a fair amount of pubs and a day trip to Calgary is always fun they have lots of great little pubs as well.

Well we've arrived, our stuff finally arrived (a week late) and we're getting settled. Finishing up working for my old company on contract, then will be deciding what to do here in Edmonton. Lucky enough to have a couple job offers already on the table, so I'm not worried about work. Then it will be time to get going on a house buying hunt.

It was pretty dang cold when we got here. I had a parka, but I wasn't prepared for how quickly I needed to go buy proper footwear. Low cut winter Merrel's just weren't going to cut it. >.<! But other than that, it's been pretty good. I certainly don't mind the price of gas, the 'rush hour' traffic (it's so cute what passes for heavy traffic here) or the price of insurance here. Although one big thing to get used to is watching my speed. I'm not a lead foot or anything, but I'm not used to traffic cams or speed traps, so I'm trying to play it really safe.

Edmonton is a massive offender for speeding tickets. You'll get plenty.
