Ati 4870 Temp

At 35%? I cant hear mine but then again Ive got a fairly noisy 92mm fan as an exhaust.

What kind of noise is it? if its a high pitched or electronic whirring noise try improving the ventilation to the underside of the card and MB and the power regulators. My card was noisy at any fan speed before pointing a fan at the MOSFETs on the board.

I'm going to be testing a modded BIOS file (based on the ASUS TOP 4870) which gives you a higher overclock limit in CCC as well as a more effective fan profile. It uses the stock clocks instead of the pre-overclocked ASUS ones so it should work on any 4870. I've already uploaded it to another thread, but I've yet to test it, so use at your own risk. Here is the thread: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/video-cards/8967-asus-4870-top-bios.html#post74429

Let us know how the modded bios works for you. I have been using the profile hack to get my 4870 temps down but would prefer a more elegant solution.

If that's idle temp then I would hate to see load temps. :shok: I'm not familiar with the temp range for the 4870 but my 8800 GTS idles at about 33-34 and is loaded at 47-48 degrees.
Mine idles about 79*C (same as his), hits 87*C at full load ... Stock cooling ...

The temperature doesn't fluctuate much, but it's still weird to see ~80*C as an idle temp ..

I couldn't have the default clocks and higher CCC limit, but I was able to have default clocks, the regular 790MHz limit in CCC and the better fan profile. I'll upload the BIOS here, refer to the other thread on how to get them installed.

Ive heard of people using the accelero but one guy took an IR reading and found it did a bad job of keeping the RAM and MOSFETS cool.

When it comes to the VRM cooling the Accelero struggles. But if you want another good aftermarket cooler you can consider the Thermalright HR-03 GT. Probably the best cooler for the HD4870.:thumb: SKY tested the Thermalright and it dropped temps almost 50%.:shok:
