cap lock key...

On my PC I have the caps lock functionality disabled but I use it as a Mumble/Vent/Voice key

I'm a software developer, and I use the Caps Lock key everyday. There are some sequences of code that have to be written in uppercase. Also when writing SQL scripts it's best practice to write all commands in uppercase for readability. Taking the Caps Lock key off of a keyboard would be a major PITA for me and every developer where I work, and I'm sure a lot of other devs that work in case sensitive code would agree. If people dislike the Caps Locks key so much, just do a quick registry change to disable the key on the keyboard.

From my point of view, this is a horrible horrible idea.

And you could very well bind the changed key back to a caps lock function if you so desired. The vast majority of users have absolutely no use for it. It makes sense to replace it.

huh? your in the small minority that actually needs a caps lock so therefor everyone else should live with a useless key? Would it not make more sense for the default function to be as a search or whatever so that the populous have a better option. If you wanted you could change it from search to caps, but what people have been aruing is that MOST people hardly use it at all, which is a inconvenience.

plus in this instance it's a web laptop, so this isn't designed for programming anyway.

Sir, it seems your argument is no longer valid.

So should then Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Print Screen, Scroll Lock, Pause/Break, Num Lock, etc also be removed?
Ohwait, I forgot, google is trying to do that too. -_-

Really guys, do not screw with my keyboard.
Google's toy is for the same sort of people that want a device like the iPad. You can sometimes remove those keys for devices like that but desktops should still have a standard full layout.

What happens when you need to use some software that requires a certain key on such a limited device? You are buggered unless google sees fit to include an on-screen keyboard and that is a terrible terrible solution.

*Edit
Polygon, the Caps Lock key does not hurt you at all.
There is absolutely no real need for it's removal.
It may not be useful for you but some people like it or need it. Since it has no affect on you whatsoever, stop trying to make life hard for others.

They could've just put a search key somewhere else. Lots of keyboard have that already. Then we could all be happy?
