Comment Thread for HD2600 XT Performance Preview

The Cat. 7.6 did not play nice with the engineering sample for some reason and you may notice that the beta drivers are from the 8 series Cat. drivers. I believe the final retail driver release for the 2600 and 2400 series will be the 8.6 drivers. I am aware that the 7.6 drivers hold some 8 series Release Candidate drivers but the performance was extremely...off.

As for Vista, for the forseeable future we will only be using Vista for DX10 benchmarks....if and when the DX10 games mature enough to warrant it. The State of DX10 article is in the works so with that everyone will see more than enough Vista and DX10 benchmarks.

What surprises me the most about the new low/mid offerings from both ATI & AMD is the fact that we're not seeing a performance improvement over last gen cards.

Did the two companies burn out their development teams rushing to DX10????

I wonder how these would stack up against a 1650 or a 1650pro.

Personally, I think a HUGE selling point for these cards is the price. I have seen the Canadian pricing and I can tell you....people will be lining up to get the 2600-series into their budget systems.

I've seen a few reviews of the HD2600XT and other than 3DMk05/06, it has been bested easily by Nvidia's current midrange offerings. It could be immature drivers being the culprit but only time will tell.
