D IV

I haven't played in a while, got distracted by Path of Exile II, still didn't play that enought, and then... well SC and everything else shiny lately.

But I'm tempted to pre-order the expansion (I know I know...) just to get access to the Paladin class and create a new character with that. Nothing to do with the actual game really but the idea of a Paladin fighting the horse of demons and such appeals to my fantasy mindset for the setting :)

Not sure if you were a DII player, if not you might not be aware that the paladin character is really a throwback to DII (ring of hammers and all.... :) ).

Sanctify is really turning out interesting with the ability to roll an unrelated legendary (or mythic as in my above example) affix and/or an extra normal affix. The only downside I'm seeing so far is that it locks the item out from any further modification, and the odd time that it decides to do an affix swap which removes one of your needed affixes.

I like the new method of masterworking which applies "quality" across the board up to level 25 and then does a final GA roll which is easy (and relatively cheap) to change until you get the desired GA.

Tempering is also improved (IMO). They've dropped it down to a single temper but you select the specific one you want (instead of hoping to get 1 of 4) and the ranges of them appear to be higher.

I didn't get into DII enough to catch the reference. I did wonder why they made the comment in one of the reveal videos to "pick up the hammer" and then all the footage was the Paladin wielding a sword! That makes more sense if they are linking it to good Diablo memories from the past :)

I finished Diablo, and then didn't get into later releases much until this one peaked my interest again. There are a lot of good games now in this genre, but the Blizzard folks still know what they are doing for sure.

So I have started again as a Paladin and I am really enjoying it. It really just feels like a great class in the story context.

This is a real noob question but I have to ask. I understand that Toughness is considered an overall metric of your survivability; combination of health, armour, etc. But if that is the case, why can I get a piece of gear that has like 100 more points of armour, but it can result in a reduction in Toughness, without there seeming to be a stat loss on the new armour that could explain it?

I must be just missing something, but I am missing it, so figured I'd ask :)

Toughness incorporates pretty much every stat so there's probably something you're missing that's lower.

We too came back to Diablo IV, it's been a lot of fun playing the paladin. Only recently did the previous expansion story, now to actually play the game

I'm trying to stay focused on the campaign this time. I have a level 32 character (I think) from my first dabbling, but I kept getting lost in side quests! I still want to do the side quests, but I'd like to get caught up on the campaign stories. I do like Blizzard's storytelling.

Can you complete the campaign by focusing only on it, or do you need to level up via side quests? So far, Paladin at level 16 playing Normal mode is having no trouble.

To answer my own question for other new players, researching, you can focus on the campaign and complete it without leveling through side content. At least the base campaign anyway. If you do have difficulty with a quest, recommendation is to do a bit of side content for leveling or improved gear, but that likely isn't necessary.

I tried a different approach this time with the Paladin for skills/attributes. I put more points into fewer skills, meaning the skills I did have are more powerful. I don't know if that is a better or preferred approach or if the Paladin is just a more powerful class than my other character, but he certainly seems to pack a wallop! Definitely going through the campaign bosses much easier.

Finally got around to rolling a blessed hammer paladin. Still working on getting BiS gear and bumping glyphs, but it certainly does seem fairly OP. :)

One thing I didn't realise was that sanctified mythic properties on non mythic gear stacks with the mythic gear. I've got the +4 Skills/20% cooldown on a set of boots which paired with the shako is giving me +8/40%.

Only took about 10 hours to get lvl 60 (having shako/doombringer/starless @ lvl 35 sure does push things along... :) ) and a few hours beyond that to finally get all of the recommended glyphs.

Level 31 on my Paladin now, still have no clue what most of what you said means lol. I really should learn this game better. I’m just playing the main story quests only and just on Normal, but sure seems powerful. I haven’t died at all. Only healed with potions twice as I earn health with hits and over time. And have beaten all bosses so far on first try. Way different than my Rogue.

Heh... BiS is Best in Slot, or in layman's terms the most effective piece of kit you can get in that slot for your build. Bumping Glyphs is my term for leveling paragon glyphs but you wouldn't see that until after lvl 60.

One of the features of D4 Seasons is that paragon levels carry over to all characters so once you've gotten to a certain point with your first character (in my case it was paragon 286 from my WW barb) you automatically get those paragon levels for any new character once you unlock paragon levels by reaching lvl 60. That's a huge boost to your newly rolled character that kicks in when you reach level 60.

One of the biggest things to watch for in the higher levels of the game is the difference between damage multipliers vice additive damage. A stat that does 50%(x) is a hell of a lot better than 50%(+)

After another full day at this paladin and getting some better gear (4GA BiS amulets don't hurt.... :)) I'm at the point where T4 Ubers are under 10 seconds, and that's with my glyphs under lvl 70. Definitely overpowered, and really highlights how underpowered my end game WW barb was/is.

I haven't pushed the pit yet, but just finished a lvl 100 pit without breaking a sweat.
