I was recently looking into getting a GTX 670 considering the price was great for performance compare to the 680 ... however, I came across a deal for two EVGA 580's 3GB versions for about 580 dollars. I just sold my two GTX 460's for 200 dollars so really I am getting them both for about 380 minus another 50 dollars for a hard drive I just sold. I wouldn't have done this if the 580's were the 1.5gb version and a brand like Zotac, but being EVGA and 3GB I decided to go for it.

So I am wondering if these two cards would out perform a single GTX 670? I wouldn't have gone SLI on the 670 anyway, that's too much money and the small size of the PCB was also a turn off considering I want to water cool my video cards and not have them look like short little GT 210's in my tower! I can't seem to find benchmarks comparing 3GB GTX 580's vs a single GTX 670 so maybe you guys can help me out! thanks in advance.

I'm not an expert on video cards, but sli 580's will out perform any single gpu card out today.

The 670 is something like 25% faster than a 580, and the 680 is only a few points ahead of the 670.

I'm sure you'll get better comments, but I'd think sli 3gb 580's will perform great for another couple years.

YAY!

3GB SLI 580 without question, 680 is barely %20 faster then a single 580.

The 580 SLI will beat out the 680, especially with the extra video ram. Only catch is you probably won't ever see it use more then 2GB per card unless you're running 3 monitor gaming.

Nice! looks like I made the right choice then. I didn't know the 680 was only about 20% faster, that sucks! I don't know about going 3 monitors, but I will be getting a 27 inch sometime next month with a 2560 x 1440 resolution so I did want to get beefier cards to run my games maxed out since I don't think the 460's would handle it with newer games at that resolution. I like to crank everything to full. Thanks for the responses everybody! :)

No doubt about it two GTX-580 in SLI will be quiet a bit faster then a single GTX-680 even if it is overclocked to the max.I am glad the GTX-670 came out and it was everthing I was looking for.My three GTX 470's are still plenty fast ,I have good cooling so I can run them at 780/1780 at just 1.037v and that way I just need to set my fan at 78% and it not so loud ,It still loud but no where near what it is when I set it to a 100% .To run it at 840/1900 I need 1.087 and 100% fan and it sounds like a jet ,but 78% is tolerable and my temperpertures just get to 75c to 76c.But they are starting to show there age because two GTX-670 will beat my TRI-GTX470's in 3DMark 11 I just get 14,505 and in 3D Vantage I get 51,252.I just want two GTX-670's to run in SLI and I want a Gigabyte that has three fans so it will be quiet and use a whole lot less power.

Nice! SLI 670's would be nice if you have the budget for it! Good luck with the build. :bananafunky:

Nice price too! sub $300 for 3GB 580s is a steal... whoever sold loves new hardware and has deep pockets to afford that loss!

Let us know how they go. The raw power will be damn impressive and there aren't too many downsides other than the extra heat/noise and if you care about power consumption.
