Favorite Youtube Videos of the week Thread!!!

This is very cool and scary, since so many people have no clue what Linux is or even know about it, not to mention how many individuals have built and maintained it over the years. From groups to single people working on their own time. All because of the passion they have for the project.

Interesting! I had no idea

der8auer got scammed by Alibaba supplier. Fake ALU and Copper plates, he's out 40K Euro. TL;DR version, copper plates that aren't pure copper but copper plated steel. ALU shipment that has real ALU plates on top but when he open the box, it's steel plates in the middle and hollow space at the bottom. Like the movie where you stack real money on the top layer of the brief case but fake money in the bottom.

Could be a problem sourcing period such as getting outbid for metal or the supplier simply ignoring small guys. I originally thought he paid via Alibaba but apparently he saw the seller but went to a straight deal instead. Another question is what about business insurance? Does it have a clause inside that covers something like this? At best he can recoup like a few thousand dollar from scrap value.

This helps explain what the hell is going on in the RAM world. Most of us know this, but it explains a major reason behind it all very well.

And it may get worse. We already had the covid supply chain shortage. It looks like the war could escalate another supply chain globally. At the least I think we'll see a lot of hoarding of materials & parts along with the usual price gouging. Plus all the trade uncertainty with Trump's war and tariffs.

Energy and trade experts are warning of a cascading impact on global supply chains that will only grow as the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran drags on and the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.

On the other side of the continent, Reuters has reported that chip makers in South Korea have warned the conflict could disrupt the production of semiconductors.

"Officials raised a possibility that semiconductor production could be disrupted if some of these key materials cannot be sourced from the Middle East," said Kim Young-bae of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, naming helium as one example.
