get the most out of my Raptors

sata 300 is a joke if you cant get more than 140 out of your bus anyway, i mean a single veloceraptor will do 120 a single raptor 80... 3 raptors should out perform a single veloceraptor.

apperantly not... i've actually tried the raptors with windows software raid and it "seems" to be the fastest of them all, though i cant test the speed, installing seems to go faster and the ATTO program rates it as the most stable read/write speeds, but i'm not sure how atto works, so i dont use it to compair

While sata300 maybe a joke I have to say my little 250g SATA 2 drive is pretty quick in my eyes as a comparision:

FYI: 8mb quick test.

Yeah, thats faster than a raptor. See how on the chart the speed slopes lower and lower from the start, none of my tests dont do that, they bounce between two speeds constantly from start to finish, except for the dual drive settup with the pcix controller, it actually tapered off at the very end wich leads me to believe that its hitting a wall before the drives are maxed out.

Could try a firmware update? Its tricky but i know early raptors had problems when seeking to the outsides of the disks, causing them to "bounce" as you described.

like i said, i'm at work for a few days and cant get a screenshot, did you see the artwork i made on the last page? thats my rendition of a screenshot i have on my phone, that i cant upload to my pc for lack of an adaptor or cable

i'm not sure that its the drives themselves since i've tested them all seperatly and the results are to be expected. As a last resourt though i might try updating them.

looks like i'm going to have to spend the bucks on a pcix 4x raid controller to put this to rest... i'll do a big write up on it if i find that it makes a big difference. If the bus and the on board chipsets are limiting these drives then people who buy the velecoraptor or other high end sata300 drives might find the information valuable. It might be time for card type controllers to come back into the limelight. pci controllers need not apply however, regardless of what speed it claims, the bus has a very small bandwith that is also shared with any other cards you might have in there as well, limiting them even more... 90 - 100 is the best i got with 2 different pci raid cards on either motherboard.

email it to yourself :P

phones have that capability or should.

Either way I'm gonna say you have either a faulty drive or a borked raid controller.

I say run hdtach on individual drives each to see how they run.

lol re read the first post, i've got 5 different raid controllers and ive tried them all in single, double and triple configurations, ive run each drive seperatly and tested them individually and they all test to the same spec. I didnt want to email it to myself because its 2.5 mb and 6 bucks per meg, but you reminded me that my phone does wifi so i'll have a pic shortly :D
