this is with a pcix 1x controller and only 2 raptors. notice that its pretty much slammed up to the top untill the tail end, then it tapers off, comapair it to your shot enaberif, i would expect that if its running to max capacity that it should steadily drop from the start to the finish. It looks to me like its hitting a wall untill the end before showin its true speed at the end

thats the thing though, its not all the same... 2 drive combo on the onboard chipsets net me between 110 and 117 mb/s where 3 drives give me 130-140... but the pcix card gives 130 with 2 drives, so i know that im topped out somehow, but if the two drives can get 130 on the card, they should be able to do the same with the onboard because i know for sure that the onboard raid can do at least 130-140... and the two drives together can do at least 130...

I put 3 WD2500JD drives in RAID 0 on my 680i based mainboard. Unfortunately, the RAID drivers would not install under Win XP and I did not take the time to try and troubleshoot it. Vista, however worked right out of the box. Here is a screenshot of HD Tune results:

As you can see the test shows the same odd saw tooth pattern. I do not know what that is about. My previous benches were with HD Tach (which apparently does not work in Vista ) and under XP. One drive gave an average performance of 50ish MB/sec average and two drives in RAID 0 just about doubled that. It is rather disappointing to see the addition of a third drive does not provide a linear performance improvement and also yields some weird behaviour.

I just used the default settings for the array and the stripe size was "optimal" (whatever that means). I read some forum post that said RAID 0 will be faster if you use a small block size. I may try that next. If I clear off my backup drive I could also try it with four drives to see what happens.

I'm in the process of finding a good pcix 4x controller to try out, I'll post back my results with it soon as i can. I think 3 raptors are faster than the onboard controller can handle already.
