HDMI 2.1a is Released

alas, it seems that addition may be moot as cable manufacturers aren't required to support SBTM on cables they'll call 2.1a. o_O
Basically, since the number doesn't mean anything anymore more. doesn't this mean every 2.0 device and cable is now 2.1a because reasons...
 
Isn't there an issue over and above cables? I was under the impression that different manufacturers have implemented a hodge-podge of HDMI 2.1 features and that the chances of getting everything you expect from the port are slim to none.

that is pretty much what the writer of that article laments in the first sentence, LoL!
