Hi,
I have a Dell Studio 15 Laptop with 2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 series.

Whenever I play games like UT2004, temperatures of the processor and graphics card shoot up to ~80C.
Idle, the temps are ~40-45C. The ambient temperature is around 30C.

Are these normal temperatures for a laptop? If not, how can I cool it down practically?

Thanks in advance.

Those are pretty normal temperatures for a laptop while under load. Laptop CPUs do heat up quite a bit, but they are designed for it and it's not a problem.

Thanks for a replies! I'm a bit relieved now. I'll try getting one of those Laptop coolers....

As others have said, those temps are pretty normal. A laptop cooler might help a few degrees, and there is undervolting, which it sounds like that's what ThrottleStop is supposed to do, but my CPU wasn't supported. The "Undervolting" Guide That is a great guide for undervolting Intel platforms.

This might be obvious but also make sure not to block vents or grills. Like if you're using it in bed a blanket can easily bunch up and cover an exhaust hole. And be careful with actually using a laptop on your lap... I know someone who actually got a burn on their leg from one.

Thanks a lot burebista and clone63!:thumb: After following that great guide, I managed to get the temps to drop from ~85C to ~65C under load!:clap:
@Thund3rball: Thanks for the tip.:thumb:

Hmph, voltage was unstable, so I have to bump voltages up a bit...
Ran folding for ~24 hours straight...
What should be the ideal temps? I'm now getting ~75C. Is this okay for prolonged periods of time? Or do I have to find some way to decrease it?
