How to connect a work laptop, personal use desktop PC and two monitors ??

Hi,

Okay, I have added your suggested KVM to my Amazon wishlist. Is the quality of that company good and that particular product? I do not know anything about KVMs. I read the reviews at Amazon and there are many complaints.

Is there a different high-quality manufacturer with a specific unit for my system I could use without breaking the bank?

Thanks,

CG

KVM can be a very finicky thing unless you're using the most VGA models, unfortunately.

Not sure if it's valid option for your use case, but have you considered just using Remote Desktop or similar to access say the laptop from the desktop PC and sharing the monitors that way?

That may be an option for you that requires no additional hardware at all.

This is the way I run mine. I have my laptop on the same network and I simply RDP in to it. There's several ways to set that up depending on your needs. It also allows me to offload some of the more demanding software on to my home PC if needed. (I ran Teams on my home PC for meetings because my laptop didn't like running video.) And if you decide to run a single monitor for work instead of dual, then you can always have a movie or something playing on your second monitor from your home PC on slow or monotonous days. ;)

To seamlessly switch between your work laptop and personal desktop with two monitors, follow these steps:

1. Dual Monitor Setup: Connect each monitor to the desktop PC using the available ports (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.). Use the graphics card for maximum display performance.

2. Laptop to Monitor: Connect your work laptop to one of the monitors via HDMI, USB-C, or DisplayPort, depending on what your laptop supports.

3. Monitor Switcher: If your monitors don’t support multiple inputs, consider getting a KVM switch. This allows you to toggle between your laptop and desktop easily without having to manually swap cables.

4. Keyboard/Mouse: Use a wireless keyboard and mouse, or connect them to the KVM switch if available, so they work with both devices.
