7950x3D on a X670E GAMING PLUS WIFI with G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RAM (F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR)

It sits there for about 15 to 20 seconds with a RAM fault led on, black screen. Then LED turns off and goes into post and then boots windows.

I switched around the RAM, it still does the same thing. BIOS is updated, XMP II is enabled.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

one stick does work at stock, no xmp. post right away... once I enable Expo or XMP. its back to hanging for 15secs. the other stick always hangs for 15secs. both do work eventually.

Its a new build, new motherboard, new Gen4 SSD, new ram and CPU.

PS: ordered other ram different brand. 🤞

I am wondering if once Expo/XMP is enabled it might just be taking the time to test the RAM at those speeds. I could be wrong but it's not the first time I have heard something like this. good luck with the new set

If it's hanging on every boot then it's more than likely attempting to negotiate working timings. What does cpu-z say the timings are for the memory once it does boot? If they're at the expected XMP settings and stay there then things are working as advertised if it boots normally next time. if they're down to non-XMP settings then the board can't boot with the default xmp settings and you may have to either manually enter the settings and/or slightly bump the memory voltage to get them over the hump.

Don't use xmp and set the ram manually. I can't xmp with my NEO ram either. 5950x on a strix 550. XMP didn't work with my 5800x either.

I set the ram manually to 3600 and left.the rest. Zero issues. No time for hairline tweaks.

I think you are describing the slow boot time related to memory training on AM5. It has improved on most boards, but some still have it. While doing sorting its timings, it will have the light on.

I have the same kit on a 7800X3D and it does the same, as others said it's likely related to the memory training. Try switching to EXPO and see if its faster, it's about 15 seconds on my Strix B650E-F. Or as suggested, you could manual set your timings.
