Is this the "legit" PSU tier supply list?

Hi guys back with another dumb question :) .. I was wondering if you guys consider this to be a legitimate updated PSU tier list?

compared to say this list?

Normally I would have just stuck with the cultist link mentioned above but I couldn't find the year 2024 version of the CORSAIR RM850x (ATX 3.1 or so the product description on amazon says :) ) power supply on there.. I was trying to find out if it's a Tier A power supply.. here's the amazon link hopefully it works

Remember that I am an ignorant American living in the USA :P who keeps coming and bothering you fine folk because you are so kind and helpful :) (but that also means the link above is to amazon's USA website)

What prompted this is me realizing the power supply in my son's desktop PC... the " CORSAIR CX Series CX750 (New) CP-9020123-NA 750W ATX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE" power supply (here's what I think is a link to the Corsair listing for it )

Turned 7 years old this past December 2025 (purchased and installed December 2018) and I thought to myself "Geez, five year warranty and we're two years past that.. I'm lucky this power supply is still working!" (the only bad thing I've noticed is the desktop PC says "nope" and wakes itself right back up when you tell it to go into sleep mode, other than that desktop PC still working fine so far)...

.. I'm trying to decide if I should replace it right now this very moment or wait until when prices drop in the USA around our Black Friday sales event (probably November 28th 2025) and buy the Corsair RMx850x then ... on the other hand (sorry to make things political here but the Trump presidcency in the USA could potentially affect prices) I'm wondering if it's better to buy it now before and if the tariffs Trump has promised go into effect and the price actually goes HIGHER by November 2025 :P

Sorry for yet another wall of text and thanks to anyone who reads this and replies :)

I bought the 1000W version about a month ago, I don't think you can really go wrong with Corsair PSUs generally speaking.

I wouldn't go out of my way to replace a currently functional PSU though, especially if the rest of the computer is also old. If you plan to put a new video card in or upgrade the motherboard/CPU, then consider buying a new PSU at the same time. 10yr would be my threshold.

I've had several Corsair PSUs over the years (3 right now) and I've never had a single issue.

That said, I'm with the earlier statement regarding not changing a functional psu. If your PC is waking immediately from sleep, that's far more likely to be a sleep setting. Maybe a peripheral device or monitor with wake permissions.

A few points IMO:

1. No PSU "tier list" is perfect, or complete, but they are usually a good guide

2. There are less solid PSU reviewers around now (lost a few good ones in the last couple years), so the quantity/quality of PSU reviews is not what it use to be

3. Corsair RMx PSUs have been fantastic for a long time now, so I would suspect that the newest version is going to continue that trend, but I don't believe I have seen any proper reviews of it yet. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it based on its history, but that isn't concrete for now

4. ****** Most importantly, and as @Caldezar said, I would say the sleep problem you are having is 95% NOT the PSU. Its almost certainly an app/program/setting that is causing it. They can be extremely annoying to find sometimes, and I have gone through it in the past (in my case the computer would just never go to sleep on its own unless I forced it)

5. I would leave your current PSU in that computer until you do a major upgrade or sell that system off, and then use the opportunity to get a new one

Cybernetics is as close to perfect as you are going to get. All of these companies have them in their literature. You can sort the database by practically any metric that you may be looking for in a power supply, plus you can filter and compare against others. Even the post above referencing hwbusters uses cybernetics in their article. Why not go straight to the horses mouth?

WRT the sleep issues..... I've found that windows 11 update prevents sleep whenever there's an "optional" Preview update available. There's something messed up with the auto-wake feature for updates and it seems to affect the Preview updates more often than not.

As always you guys are fantastic - look at all these extremely useful and helpful replies and this is just in the space of one day, thank you all so very very much :)

Since everyone is saying if the power supply is working fine no need to replace it I'll do just that :) .. I remember reading somewhere online (can't remember where for the life of me) that more than a year past the power supply's warranty end date you should replace it so given the warranty was only 5 years on the power supply I was like " Oh man it's two years past the warranty expiration date!" .. but duly noted, Corsair power supplies are known to be good quality units and it should be replaced probably at the ten year old mark or if there's some sort of symptom that the power supply is causing problems.

The hilarious thing is when I purchased the power supply back in 2018 I only snagged it because it was $44 American after rebates (including taxes) and yep I did get the $20 rebate back as promised by Corsair .. so I was going solely off price and not the quality of the PSU which I've realized since then is a mistake , a cheap-o power supply can apparently do bad things to your desktop PC so.. looks like I got lucky despite my ignorance :p

edit - I should point out the reason for the $44 price is the insane black friday (day after thanksgiving)/december sales we have .. and of course year 2018 things were a lot less expensive to begin with :)

Thanks this is really good to know :) ... I looked at the desktop PC with the power supply I posted about..not seeing any optional preview updates but now I know they have the potential to mess with a PC's sleep mode so thanks for that :)

(strokes chin) the funny thing is the desktop PC was was built by me for/belongs to my son who is working on his computer science degree .. he had a programming script black window type thing open no idea if that was maybe causing the desktop PC to say "nope, not going into sleep mode" I tried putting his desktop PC into sleep mode as an experiment just now and it passed the fifteen minute mark while staying in sleep mode which it was unable to do before when my son had the programming window type thing open.. sorry I can't explain it in better detail my son is the CS major not me :P and he's off at a friend's house right now enjoying life while he's young and living at his parent's house while going to school :) ..

Another funny thing.. I actually swapped out the motherboard, CPU and ram on the same desktop PC a few years back (year 2022) to make it Windows 11 ready then installed Win 11 on it albeit not until year 2023 (got crazy lucky and snagged a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB for $50 American - they were crazy cheap year 2023 ! - which became the new C drive for Windows 11 on this desktop PC ).. I did all of that and didn't bother replacing the PSU because I thought " Hey it's working fine no need to replace it right?".... in retrospect especially given the rising costs due to inflation I wonder if I should have just replaced the power supply while I was at it and kept the 750 watt corsair PSU around as a backup PSU. Ah well..
