Hey folks,

I'm looking for a keyboard with a trackpad built in to get as an XMAS gift for a family member.

I see extremes in this type of keyboard. (keeping in mind price isn't a huge factor)

For example:

Razer Deathstalker Ultimate is like $374-$400 range

Logitech K400 is $60 range

Obviously I'm not trying to compare features between these 2 products, just looking for any other keyboards with trackpad that fit in between these price points?

Also, does anyone have experience with the Razer Deathstalker Ultimate? It looks awesome!!

Thanks,

What's the main usage scenario?

It might be inexpensive, but as a HTPC keyboard I've never had any complaints about the k400.

Same here, been using a k400 for years with my htpc and absolutely no issues whatsoever. 60$? I'm pretty sure I got mine for something like 30$ years ago.

As for alternatives, I think MS has a similar offering as well.

For HTPC, K400 is fine as I got one for my family like 2 years ago. However, I don't recommend using it for productive use. It's just too slow for that.

It's going to be used for business tasks, regular computer tasks. He's not a gamer, but likes programmable buttons for youtube, facebook..etc Also, hes stubborn and refuses to use a mouse..hence the need for a trackpad.

Would you folks say the K400 has a good, accurate trackpad..especially for someone used to using laptops 99% of the time?

I've never had an issue with the trackpad, but I will admit that I personally wouldn't want to be using the K400 keyboard for day to day 24/7 entry tasks.

If it were 5 years earlier I would have recommended the Enermax Aurora w/ a trackball.... I absolutely love the keyboard on that thing but they're not available any more.

edit: Something to consider.... they do make stand alone USB trackpads. You could buy a good mechanical keyboard and bundle it with a trackpad. That way you've got a much better chance of not having to make do with a mediocre keyboard in order to get trackpad functionality (or vice versa).

This was a brilliant suggestion, I never even thought of something like this. I found a slightly different one, but I'm totally going with it, and now just looking at some mechanical/RGB keyboards.

Thanks alot.

I'm curious to know how well this setup was received. I'm not sure I'd personally want to use a trackpad for my desktop, but if the stand-alone units work well I'd imagine there are folks out there who'd prefer them to a mouse for a production environment.
