Cat people are weird...!
I suppose I fit into this catagory. I don't know Linus at all so I have no like/dislike for the person but I don't like unboxings as they present themselves as a pseudo review for less sophisticated PC buyers.More importantly, though, I also don't understand the distaste for Linus harboured by some. He's just a computer enthusiast like you and me. And truthfully, for a minor celebrity, he's about as real as they come. My dad is a minor celebrity, and it turned him into a complete and total a-hole. If you have a tendency to conflate the purpose of an unboxing (i.e., first impression) with that of a review (i.e., critical analysis), well, it's hardly Linus's fault that you're not too clever.

3Dgameman might have been the first to popularize the genre but regardless of the host (even Corsair HX850 V2 Power Supply PSU Overview - YouTube ) I dislike the focus on "pretty, shiny" rather than how it works. I generally look deeper (sites like HWC) but there are people who get sucked in by the style over substance or they wouldn't exist as a marketing tool.
This is marketing after all and it is done for one reason only and that's to separate people from their money.
Meh... not a big issue to me really... I'll get by fine with or without unboxings in the world. :bleh:
Linus worked for a big company and had a job to do, despite a few hiccups I had with NCIX , the people there went out of their way to remedy any situation. Linus helped me once witha concern I had and the level of service went beyond what I expected.
Linus is a salesman and techie specialist of sorts, I always thought his Youtube vids were informative, entertaining and to be taken at face value.
I understand his motivation maybe part sales pitch, part enthusiast euphoria or part personal interest on his part.
Standing in front of a camera is not easy and I always found there was a degree of professionalism under his grin, which is not always easy.
Overall the package was always positive, I think NCIX is loosing a big asset and I hope he prospers in whatever he does. Being critical of the guy is childish, I think he represents the industry well.
And yes his sister in law is hot...Esther is his sister in law...right?
I like Linus, his unboxings always help me decide on purchases because he always shows the product and usually demonstratives it, all the other tech channels seem a little dry and boring.
