Montreal Canadiens ...

I'm pretty pissed too. Ryder is on the last year of his contract and is well past his prime now. From what everyone is saying, he's also a bum who doesn't get along too well with his teammates.

I always like Ryder in MTL and I didn't think there were locker room problems with him there or in Boston. Cole is older, and also not performing where he was hoped. I think he might be worth the risk.

I have a friend who's a Leaf fan and pretty pissed off right now. He's always talking smack, and he was texting me all day... literally, taunting me about the game tonight. I felt like telling him off a few times haha. All I can say is I'm liking the fact they nailed down 2 more points to climb further ahead of everyone in the eastern conference. However, I think once Boston catches up in their number games they might take the lead.

I've heard similar things about Cole, where when things go well, he's a great teammate, but not so much when things aren't that good, he doesn't like to give up his time on the ice for someone who produces better than him. He wasn't exactly amazing this year and would of had to play on the 3rd line without PP time, not too sure how he would have been then.

As for Ryder, he is surely a less complete player than Cole, but he plays a different role, a role no other Habs player excel in; whereas, Cole plays in a similar way as Bourque, MaxPac, Gallagher (you could also add Prust to that).

I think the trade is pretty much even Ryder for Cole; IMHO where the Habs win is with the contract duration and the fact they got a draft pick, even if its a 3rd rounder, apparently this year is a great one.

Yep. Seems Cole was not the greatest guy this year, and was mulling retirement before the lockout was over (but that could have been just him blowing some steam off).

Cole is more useful when he is not scoring (he is not...Ryder is). Ryder is supposed to be a better all around player than he was when he left Montreal.

Habs have cap issues, and this trade helps with those issues. Ryder won't be back next year, and we wont have Cole's contract to worry about. I like the trade mostly for this reason.

They pretty much had identical stats last season. Seems more like a salary dump to get out of Cole's contract since Ryder is UFA at the end of this season, then they can use that money for something better or to keep one of their young soon to be RFAs. Montreal has just had absurdly good drafting over the last decade or so, ridiculous what Gainey did to them. McDonaugh and Subban on the backend would absolutely devastate the NE.

The we'll take your salary dump AND give you our best prospect trade is the one that really stands out for me as setting back the Habs in the last few years. Grabovski and the Kosti brothers not so much since with a lot of talented prospects you're bound to lose someone useful.

What's with this team? They got their asses handed to them on a silver platter by TO....again, and now Philly is giving them a whoopin'. Not a good sign this close to the end of the season. Maybe it's just me but it kind of seems like their drive is gone since clinching a playoff position.

Not gonna lie loving this I'm a TML fan but I do hope they make the playoffs and would love to see them in the first round :) Would be excellent series either way win or lose.

OLE OLE right now though lol 9 goals on Price in 2 games haha :)

Personally I'm hoping for a game 7 "Na na na na..." chant with 10 minutes left in the 3rd and the Habs up by 2. Then for them to lose in overtime =).

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Luckily, the refs are less lenient with goons in the playoffs. That pretty much guarantees Toronto will loose in the first round, regardless of who they play.
