Work in progress Muzzle Flash III: White Death

Several people asked me what tools I use to do my sleeving (they are looking to get into it themselves), so I'd figure I'd show them.

The Knipex wire strippers are good to get a consistent length. The diagonal cutters are for cutting wire and the sleeve. You never know where you might need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull something. A small Allen wrench to push a stubborn pin into a housing (you can use anything long and thin). A razor blade to trimming up stuff. 2 different pin extractors to get existing wires out of a housing (the flat is usually for 3 or 4-pin connectors, the round one is for Molex 4-pin power cables. A lighter to singe some sleeve material so the end doesn't fray. The blue handle crimpers are from Lutro0 or DIY Customs. It's a good pair. The black handle crimpers are THE best, they come from MDPC International in Germany.

Still busy making cables. I didn't get a lot done last night as I was upgrading to Windows 10 and testing things out with the RTM version.

I did manage to get one done, a specialty one for the Aquacomputer High Flow sensor to measure the flow rate of the coolant. The connector on the visible end isn't a standard one, so I just reused the cable that came with the unit. I just put better sleeve on it and tried to dress up the end with heat shrink. I reused the 3-pin end instead of putting a black 3-pin on it, since you'll never see that end inside the "dog house" and attached to the back of the Aquaero 6XT.

Tonight's project is making a specialy 4-pin 'Y' cable to hook the Aquacomputer D5 pump and Farbwerks LED controller to the Aquacomputer 6XT using the "Aquabus" network. If I get enough time, I may also make a 3-pin male to female extension for the back 140mm fan as well as 2 USB header cables so I can parallel the D5 pump and LED controller on the USB network (which you have to do anyway for updates and setting the ID on the Aquabus).

How about some orange sleeves, especially on the Cougar fan?

How about some orange sleeves, especially on the Cougar fan?

I'm running very low on orange, and since MDPC is closed for another couple months, I was planning on saving all the orange I have on hand for the power cables for the motherboard and video cards.

Pretty much all these cables will not really be seen anyway ... most only poke out of the "dog house" by only 1-3 inches. Some, like the Aquabus and USB for the Farbwerk never leave the "dog house" at all.

But as to my imagination, I think that rear fan's cable will be seen from few angles, to much extent. If that's actually so, then it should be a good idea to burn some stock for that only. What do you think?

I might re-sleeve the fan with orange, that will only be like 6 inches. I planned to have it come down that back and tuck it under the mid-plate and run it underneath it and along the metal rail (which really isn't visible since I plan on leaving the stock side panel on on that side of the case. But yeah, I can do that in orange, then the extension I can do in black.

Good idea.
