discussion My new $1000 gaming rig

Basically these are the components:

PSU
Case
Graphics Card
Motherboard
CPU
RAM

Anything not listed I either already have or can't afford. I made a pastie that includes all of the prices here. Any opinions on it? Also all the parts are links to parts pages on Tiger Direct. My budget was about a grand, so If your'e going to suggest a part, jusst try to keep that in mind (aka, I cant afford a 980x).

After Taxes: $1433 - $55 rebate = $1378 which is less than I spent on my new laptop, which was my ultimate goal. although only 20 bucks less, but still, less

Your cpu, mobo & gpu are great, but your psu & ram aren't so good choices. I left the case out cause it's a subjective thing.

My suggestions for $1100 would be these:

Cooler Master CM690II Advanced
Corsair TX or HX 750
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Intel Core i7 950
Mushkin Blackline Enhanced DDR3-1600 6GB 3x2GB 998778
EVGA GeForce GTX460 1GB or 465

Remember to price match everything as it always helps u get more for your buck. NCIX is your best friend :biggrin:

Dont skimp on the PSU.

If you're gonna stick with corsair HX or TX 750, its on sale from canada computers. Albeit with a $20 MIR. But still... $20 is $20!

Hmm i really wouldn't skimp out on the power supply, least not for that power range. Also while evga is nice and sexy, you might be better of with a cheaper asus board. The 465 graphics cards are a sick joke on nvidia's part.... sort of like a neutered 470 with all the negatives. The ram is fine but for that price tag i'm sure you can get a faster clocked ram or at least one with heatsinks (which aren't necessary but are nice). As for the case I'm a little sketchy on it, preferably i would choose something like a 690 2 advanced for the price range but it the that centurion works for you then go for it :thumb:

That's about $1046 without taxes and shipping and may be to your liking? The corsair psu is very reliable and your getting an extra 50watts if you ever need it, just note its not as cable friendly as that coolmax but nothing a little patience can't manage. The CM690 was reviewed here a while ago at hardwarecanucks so check the case reviews, its a very nice case!

Honestly if your willing to spend the extra buck on a 460 ( or find one with a rebate) then that might be a better graphics card for you, but a 5830 from ATI (like the one above) will perform roughly the same as a 465. Intel 930....:biggrin:........ The sabertooth is a nice board and shouldn't let you down, and its not confined to the micro atx form of that evga board. As for ram... ripjaws>kingston IMO, Kingston is very good memory but they often have rather exorbitant prices for products that you can find much cheaper from other manufacturers and often better.

Corsair Dominator RAM is also a good choice (and almost the same price). Also, no one has mentioned the P6X58D-E motherboard, but that might work well for your price point.

Do you have to buy it from tigerdirect only? Where are you from?

Use shopbot.ca to find the cheapest for each component and price match it with NCIX/MemoryExpress

i live in toronto, and Im pricing it out on tigerdirect because they have a retail store right near my house, so for my last few rigs I have gone in to the store to buy it after pricing it online. I have had good experience with ordering their stuff in the past too.
