I generally don't use my full name unless I'm conducting a transaction with someone on the forum. Many people use the same online handle for multiple things over the 'net. From an infosec point of view, it wouldn't be too difficult to build a profile of someone just by linking all the handles together from forums, facebook, ebay, twitter, etc. Throw in the full name and its just that much easier. Although I trust the members on this forum, a certain amount of anonymity on the net is a good thing.
Ahh, the Zone! I was Gordo17823 there, which should give you a pretty good hint at what name appears first on my driver's licence.
When i was thinking of making this thread i thought i might get kinda put down for it as a waste of space, been done before, stupid, etc. Now i see the many facets of this one small topic. It's very interesting to me. And i see its morphed from my original topic but thats fine and to be expected.
When i first started online i noticed that people were using aliases so i figured i had better do the same because it might have to do with security. I see now security isnt really that much of an issue to many people. I suppose it can even give us some sort of false security at times.
I came up with the name of nork right at the start, i believe that was in the "286" days and i have been using it ever since. I dont think i have come across a site where someone else is using that name but there probably are a few out there. I got the name of nork by reversing kron. I just liked that name but someone else was using it on whatever site i was on so i went with nork. Only to find out later on the meaning of the word nork but, hey, who cares, long as its not too offensive. And, in my mind, a boob is not offensive unless its a picture and it hangs down to the knees, otherwise it brings pleasant thoughts to many of us, lol.
I use garebo as my alternative because of my first name.
Anyway, i find the comments here interesting so im glad i started this. I wonder how long it will go on.

Asking kids these days if they know what 'MSN Zone' is probably resembles asking them if they recognize a rotary dial phone.
Or a 56K modem! (which is what I used to play on The Zone...it was a step up from the 28K modem my parents originally had!)
