new power supply

no. if you get the earthwatts you can get a much hungrier gpu.

if your gpu will be 50 new, then dont upgrade psu :)

i was gonna prob get a 8800 used, but with the power supply i have now and my cpu(e4400) which gpu would i be able to get for some games and not have to get a new power supply?

I believe the GT240 would fit the bill. It should be adequate for medium settings at 1280x1024 and since it doesn't require additional power, shouldn't require a PSU upgrade.

A GT430 would also work, though it's a bit slower, even though it's newer and a "bigger" number, don't be fooled!

try to fish an 8800gt,or a 8800gts 512

at that resolution the card will be maxed out long before,in new games.

My choice if OP does not want to change his PSU would be the HD5670. It doesn't need an extra 6 pin power and can easily be powered off the PCIE slot.

Hey kanadien, looking at your pics if you're planning on putting my 8800 in that case it will be VERY tight at that lower hard drive, since the card is long, and has the power plug straight off the back. I can measure it tonight, but you may want to check out these other cards that guys are suggesting. Tryin to save you some hassle, but if you're upgrading the mobo, and can leave out that drive, it still may work. Your call, and I'll try to give you a good deal to keep within your budget :)

that hard drives actually dead and i just had put it in their a while ago to try to recover some stuff, one of the screws on it wasnt coming out so ill just have to fiddle with it. And which mobos should i be looking at? w/ your 8800 would i also need new psu?

i guess it might be time for a new build afterall, mr k.

now, bulldozer is not that far away, but if youre building right now, may i sugest a nice, cheap, cool and fun to play with
1156 i3 system? take your pick of h55 mobo(yesh,h,as in youll use the oncpu gpu if needed) and still be able to oc. both should be able to be had
around 200 or less, depending on the board you will chose. ram is cheap, grab 5 gigs around 50-60 bucks,gskill,corsair,kingston...
for psu, keep the earthwatts. and for gpu now the bottleneck has moved up,quite a bit.
