I'm new to this forum but have followed Hardware Canucks on YT for a while. I am looking for suggestions of a new productivity laptop (not a gamer) to be used primarily for stock trading which will run charting software, connect to chat room, broker's trading platform as well as the usual web browsing and MS Office apps. Connectivity to another external monitor or maybe 2 will be useful. Thinking 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. My budget for the purchase is about $2200 CDN. Have used Lenovo ThinkPad for the last 12 years but it is no longer capable so only using a Win10 desktop now. Would appreciate any suggestions. TIA.

I'll leave the laptop suggestions to others, but your requirement for multiple external monitor connections would probably be best served with a docking station. Which docking station would depend on what the connection to your chosen laptop would be.

Besides that, do you have a laptop monitor size preference and/or would you prefer a relatively light/portable device, or would a heavier desktop replacement be your preference?

Welcome to the forums, and good luck with your search!

I currently have 4 - 4K monitors connected to the desktop and would use 1 or 2 of those. All are 27", but 2 to 4 years old. Portability is unimportant as I will use this as a desktop replacement. I can easily carry a 2.5 to 3KG weight if travelling. I would think I could connect at least one external monitor without needing a docking station but would acquire one if necessary (not part of the budget amount I mentioned).
Thanks for your reply.

Do any of your monitors have a USB-C video input? I believe those can be daisy chained (depending on the monitor).
No. Using display port connections on all but would think I could get display port to USB-C adapters

Honestly for what your describing any 800-1000 laptop seems like it would be likely more than enough maybe even overkill even a gently used laptop of some quality would be more than enough.

But with your description and budget I'd probably grab a framework and have money left over
(the non-chromebook variations)

Edit: It again is overkill for your description but in theory will have longevity that other options don't have

I was not aware of Framework. I will study this more. Thank you.
