discussion New WC Case and new to the board

Heloooooo all ....So im building a new system...haven't a clue about over clocking.
Dont know the slightest about what i can and cannot do.
So..... i thought id sign up on this board and learn from the best !! (you guys are the best right?)
If you have any suggestions or can offer any advice & steps please feel free to do so Thanks !!
Here is a list of what i have including a picture of the build so far.
Logisys Hand Crafted Acrylic Case
EVGA nForce 680i sli socket 775 Motherboard
Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13Ghz CPU
ULTRA 550W X2 ATX SLI power supply
OCZ Dual Channel 2048MB PC8500 1066MHz DDR2 SLI-Ready Memory
Western Digital RaptorX 150GB 10K RPM SATA-150 Hard Drive
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX
Thermaltake Big Water 745 Liquid Cooling System

I dont have an up to date picture but will take some more soon as things have changed some what.
I have had a 8"x8"x19" clear acrylic box built that will sit on top of the case.
Im putting the large rad and the pump & rez into this case...i have a small indoor air-conditioner that i will be running into the smaller case to push cold air thru the large rad.

I intend on adding a 2nd 8800 GTX soon and have another 2 gig of memory on order. When vista is out i will using the 64bit version.

From the sounds of it you're planning on building the baddest rig on the block.

Only a couple of suggestions....

If you're planning on running a second 8800 GTX you're going to have to upgrade the PSU. With the kind of money you're spending I'd suggest you splurge and pick up a high end PCpower & Cooling. You won't be disappointed, and if you can afford to pick up the 1000 watter it'll scale with any future upgrade you might do.

The idea of a box for your thermaltake is a good one, just make sure to have lots of airflow through it, and make sure you leave it easy to vacuum out.

Air conditioning the air going into your "rad box" seems a little extreme, it'll certainly give you cooler temps, I'm just not sure how much cooler, and you have to consider that if the temps get too low you'll risk getting condensation inside of your case during those hot muggy days in Oshawa.

One big fat 12V rail is always better than several lower rated ones.

It's a bit pricey though.

Other than that, the higher end OCZs seem to be a quality product, or you can go with the FSP epsilons. The 600w & the 700W versions are basically the same PSU as they are manufactured by fortran.

For high end SLI I wouldn't go any less than 700W of a quality PSU.

Be wary of name branded PSUs (like thermaltake etc....) they do produce some good high end kit, but often have lower end stuff as well that shouldn't be put into a rig that needs quality power.

If you want I'll PM you with a link to another forum which has a fairly good list of "tried and tested" PSUs for DFI boards.

Just remember that for PSU's the old addage of "you get what you pay for" stands the test of time, and you don't want to risk your investment in high end kit with a crappy one.

Great thank you very much....perhaps i will grab the larger PSU right now before i even fire this project up....or do you think the PSU i have now will be ok till i get the 2nd 8800 installed?

I see your pimping that PSU now
The PCP&C psu is solid one of the best you can buy.
I have done some work on a clear case like that and dear god dont touch the inside of the case without wearing gloves. In time you will see every smudge and fingerprint as dust settles on it.

Its almost impossible not to touch that case...ive had to drill so many holes in it already...ive given up on the gloves
