oh my word...Norton 360 has a crypto miner embedded in it that is turned on by default and uses your computer to mine Ethereum where they take a 15% cut for letting them run it on your PC. 😫
 
There's been no sane reason for any private user to run norton since Windows 7, maybe earlier. Just like McAfee it's more problem than it's worth. Maybe there's some corporate situations where it makes a lot more sense, but I'm not surprised to see this come out of Norton either way.

the AV solutions offer more than just basic AV, which is all Defender does. Defender is enough in most cases, but it adds another layer of protective intelligence. that's how they differentiate themselves and have a value proposition worth considering. and as a general rule, any impact on system resources is minimal compared to the old days.
