NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 Review Comment Thread

interesting. and it stays there, no throttling,at all?

now, if the driver goes, will it fry?

It's partially based off of application detection and part off of hardware monitoring. Why would the card fry?

just curious. so if drivers fail, there is still hardware based level protection that will run the limiter right?

asking these q's becase..1-was it implemented to keep power figures in check and make it nicer in the graphs and that's it and/or 2-it can fry if sky's the limit?

That seems to be what most are offering on gtx 480s lol. Ive gotten some pretty entertaining offers on mine .

going to see a guy for a pair below that. if he is serious and they work fine ill bite. he said 450 nego for both..............ill update . worth 10 min drive vs being shafted by mail :D

Well of course. Every GPU PCB for the last 10+ years has had a form of over current protection built into it. Plus, why would the core ask for more power than the card itself can provide?

In my limited search time between meetings, nothing turned up on a search of NCIX or newegg.ca I did however find direct links.

NCIX for sure has them, for how long who knows lol.

Dan - Sometimes I think you don't even know what you are saying....
