NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 Review Comment Thread

That was a big fail for a card names after a game. Still looks cool though.

I think it is funny that NCIX lists the free trial of Startcraft 2 as a $15 value lol.

Personally the "Cod Black ops" GTX 580 doesn't do anything for me....last thing I want is my $500 GPU "branded" with some video game that everyone will forget about in 3 months...oh..you get a poster though ;)

I heard the 570 was supposed to launch imminently (before 6900 series) and the 560 would be delayed for quite a while since the 460 is still competitive. Granted, the 560 should replace the 470 in performance... That's just what I heard

Have you heard anything about the 570 not having the Hyper Computing as well?

I buy Nvidia cards for video editing purposes, and accelerating the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere, and I wonder if I would be better off simply buying a 470 or 480.

Bumping the old thread to reply to this post.

This is what I read on newegg regarding Premier Pro:

I work with HD video in Premiere CS5 and this card cut my time in half when I export my videos.
To give you an idea I compared 3 cards exporting the same piece of video which had a few effects applied. The times were the following:
Quadro FX 1800 -> 6 min
GTX 480 -> 3min 25sec
GTX 580 -> 1min 45sec

Scrolling the timeline in Premiere is very smooth at full resolution, I work with AVCHD format. While exporting, the card was pretty quiet.
My system has the i7 920 processor overclocked to 3.8 with 12GB RAM
